Default New to forums , Need Info about my 5.9..

I just bought myself a 1999 ram 1500 with a 5.9 V8

Starts nice , Runs ok, I tried it on the Highway and seems to run ok but didnt want to put the peddle to the metal.

I asked the previous owner if he did the timming chain on it and he said no.

Original owner and he's 63 years old.

Truck has 167000 Kilometers ( 101904 Miles ) +/-

I was wondering How much the job and parts cost to change it?

Actualy getting the plates and truck transfered to me on monday!
Hopefully its not to hard on gaz

Hi and a warm Carolina welcome to the best RAM ForumZ on the web. I'm not the first and won't be the last to say thanks for posting a few photos of your truck?

I hope your fuel consumption expectations aren't too high. I have a 5.9 in my 97 and I get (no real highway driving, but mixed between city and rural pavement) about 12mpg.

I don't have an answer for your other question, though.

As for the picture, is it me, or does your rear sag? maybe it's the way it's parked... Very nice looking truck! I really need to get those cab lights, they look so good.

not sure how much the parts will be, but youll have to tear the whole front of the engine apart. so you mid as well replace waterpump and by-pass hose at the same time since youll be right there.

Gen1dak will become famous soon enough

Unless the PO was running the truck hard, your timing chain is fine. These later Magnums were factory equipped with a timing chain tensioner and have been known to run well over 200,000 miles. They do still need replacement, and the tensioners do wear out, but until you have addressed the possibility of a leaking intake belly pan gasket, you should do that first.
