At least the dealer is supplying a loaner vehicle.

A D99 backorder is not a real backorder. It applies only to Emergency Orders, and means that there is 'No Stock' anywhere in the system. As not all dealers are part of the system, they 'may' be able to locate a rear end somewhere (highly unlikely) and get it shipped.

The parts people really don't like to see the D99, as it means a ton of work for them, and no real info on what/when/where...so they can't even give you an ETA. They pretty much have to re-order the part every day until they get something like a D67, which will actually have information, like said ETA.

Although it really sucks, the dealer is inconvenienced by this D99 just as much, if not more, than you are, and will not receive any compensation from Dodge for their time efforts, nor for the loaner vehicle they have provided. It is in the dealers best interest to get your truck fixed and back to you, as just providing the loaner is at their expense, so you can bet they are doing everything possible to get your truck back to you. ....

If i am not mistaken, sometime in 2010, they shut down the rear end plant(s), retooled for the rear ends that were designed by ZF. Likely they used up all the rear ends that were made before the retooling.

Rams now have a proprietary ZF axle which weighs around a third less than comparable axles
The proprietary ZF axles weigh up to 34 percent less than, and improve fuel efficiency by 2 percent relative to, comparable axles. We began to incorporate the ZF axles in the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango in 2010 and will use it in the Ram pick-up truck starting in 2011.

Each truck was down for 6-8 weeks. Terrible. Speaking as a person who works at a Dodge store and a Dodge owner, I understand how confidence can be shattered when something like this happens.

hello faceplant, sorry for the misfortune, but the EXACT same thing happened to me. I have all the details in another post named rams can frown. anyways my truck failed on the 18th of sept, and i had my truck back on the 27th, took them 10 days, but i have a whole new rear end, axle, and driveshaft. they didnt seem to have as much trouble finding a new rear-end for me... not sure if living in canada makes any difference.

My situation was a pain in the a$$ as well as this is our only vehicle, so i was left completly high and dry. the dealer would not supply a loaner nor a rental. i wasnt too impressed. what made it worse, they told me it would be ready on wednesday the 21st. it wasnt, then they told me thursday, not ready then. next it was friday... nothing friday, then monday (nope no truck monday) so i got pissed and filed a complaint with chrysler canada. The lady i spoke with said the dealer has 10 days to have the vehicle back, or supply you with a loaner of same class ( truck if you have a truck, car if you have a car) or a rental.

On the 10th day i called and my truck was ready, lucky for the dealer or they would of had to fork out a truck or rental, and i didnt proceed to finalize the complaint. When i went in to pick it up, i asked if they could throw in a hat for good measures, as i had been borrowing cars and bumming rides to work for 9 days, and they had said the truck would be ready 7 days before it was actually done, but they wouldnt even do that for me.. anyways sorry for the long rant thats my story, hope it can help you out, dont give up and keep climbing that corporate ladder til you get an answer or a vehicle you are happy with

DefiNitely will give that a try, as it stands I will be contacting dodge again on Monday because they haven't supplied me with any information at all yet. If the part no longer exist then it's only right that they should have to supply me with the new model. He'll, at this point I would happily pay the difference...
