I just talked w/ both the Parts & Service Managers @ my dealership this evening and learned a little tidbit of information that leads me to believe that Diablo and Superchips won't ever get the codes cracked! It seems Dodge has added a 'rolling codes' feature to the ECU starting in 2011. This is the same security scheme that your garage door opener uses. After the door opens, the last thing the remote does is generate a new code and send it to the opener so it knows what code to expect the next time. Evidently, the ECU is doing the same thing and generating a new code when you turn off the key. This is why the aftermarket tuner companies are having so much trouble 'cracking the codes' of the 2011's.

It was their opinion that Mopar did this in a effort to reclaim some of the performance parts business and we should soon have an option for a Mopar tuner. When I pressed them for a description (ie: will it look like a Diablo or Superchips?) they said most likely not. It will probably be more of a plug-n-play add-on style that would give noticeable performance increases but not have the 'tunability' of say, a Predator.

So, there's probably something coming but it won't have the flexibility (different octane tunes, performance tunes, economy tunes) that the current programmers have. Kind of a let down but maybe it will be OK. We'll have to wait and see.

Well that sucks! I hope they find a way around it because I was waiting to get my exhaust and intake the same time as the tuners came out.

If the manufacturer can make a tuner, so can aftermarket companies, it will just take them a long time...

Agreed but it's going to be very expensive. The aftermarket is going to have to incorporate some sort of 'code scanner' to rob the code each key cycle and then feed it back to the ECU. Then they have to modify the program itself. Hopefully the program doesn't have to D/L each time because then it won't be a feasible solution (it currently takes upwards of (20) min to D/L a program)/
