I have a tick at idle that I hear in a drive thru. I have been told it is the hemi tick. I hear it around the front of the transmission so I am concerned it may be this converter issue. Are you guys hearing the noise while driving?

Interesting vids BlackRamHemi. Thanks for posting them.

I picked up my Ram a little while ago, and so far, so good. The TC noise seems to be gone. And I don't know if it's my imagination, but the truck seems a little crisper on acceleration. It could be a case of the "I just washed my car and it drives better now" syndrome, but maybe not. I don't really have enough miles on it to know if it will cause an improvement in MPGs.

But as long as the sound is gone, I'm happy with the outcome.

The brakes... well, the tech wasn't able to replicate the problem. But the service manager asked me to "PLEASE call back if I continue to notice the brake problem" and they will look into it again. The grabbing/pulsating is extremely subtle, and it may be that once the pads wear in a little more it will go away.

I'm very happy with my local dealer service department.

Bill

On you're brake issue, i have the same thing. When i went to the dealer to buy this thing, i get in take her for a spin, and that was the VERY first thing i noticed. It isn't a real problem, and doesn't happen all the time. Anyone else have this? I wan't to replace the pads on the front with some ceramic ones, but that feels more like a rotor to me? Any input?

Keystone183,

My brakes are still pulsating, actually it's more like stuttering, when I'm almost to a stop. My guess is that either the rotors are contaminated with something or the brakes were hit hard before the pads had time to break in properly, causing them to glaze.

If it weren't under warranty would remove the calipers, clean the rotors with brake cleaner and hit them lightly with a Scotch brite pad. I'd also hose off the pads and lightly sand them to remove any glaze.

But since it's under warranty I'm taking it back to let them do it. The truck stops OK, but it's still not right and needs to be fixed.

The brakes on my last truck, a 2010 Ram 2500 CTD were perfectly smooth. But they also created a lot of reddish dust on the wheels. On my 1500 there's been little if any brake dust building up. Maybe that's a sign of glazed pads.

And 600 miles later, the new TC is perfect!

Bill

I started a poll to determine how rampant the torque converter problem is among forum members. If you have time, stop by and cast you vote. Thanks.
