Default Damage and Scratches on the lower dash

I appreciate the nice quality of the dash in our trucks. Is is not the nasty hard plastic that all American auto companies seemed to use for years.

Having said that, I have noticed that the LOWER part of the dash is indeed still that hard plastic. This LOWER area (see pic) seems to scratch up pretty easily. In fact, I noticed recently that the door of my lower (main) glove compartment is scratched up.

This annoys me, since I HARDLY ever have a passenger with me. It must have happened the FEW times I have. I have tried to wipe or buff these out, but no luck.

Has anyone else noticed these? Any solutions?

Haven't noticed scratching on mine and it has 50,000 miles and was a rental before I had it, there are very few blemishes in the interior.

I actually prefer the hard plastic, it will last forever...my wife's aveo's interior is 100% plastic, even the whole door panels, and everything is sturdy, and looks just like new and it's almost nine years old! My 2010's stupid padded arm rests are caved in and squished out....I wish it was just a plastic, one piece, sturdy, long lasting door panel...

Gregster, I'm with you on this one. The interior surfaces on these trucks scratch VERY easily, and I am meticulous with all my vehicles.

I had my briefcase on the passenger seat one day - had a slight panic stop on the highway because of some idiot that thought he'd cross the median to make a u-turn. The briefcase flew forward, and put a scratch in the plastic piece right in between the upper and lower glovebox.

Got some touch up paint from the dealership, and it really doesn't match well, so now it's the first thing I see every time I get in the truck.

I also notice that the black rubberized surfaces get like this milky, cloudy appearance over time.

Not a fan of the interior surfaces, and wish I had gone leather in my truck so at least some of those surfaces would be covered.

Have the same problem in my '08. I hardly ever have passengers but very often will put things on the floorboard and have several scratches below the glove box myself. I honestly thought the hard plastic would be able to stand up to that but I'm interested in a way to make it less visible, too.

Just to echo what you guys said about your trucks, I too am very meticulous. I know that the picture of the plastic panel I posted looks like I beat the crap out of my interior, but I don't.

I have a soft laptop bag that may GENTLY touch this panel at times, so I guess it is possible that it was caused by that. Otherwise it is down to my wife, who sits in the truck a few times a month at most.

For the record, I think that the upper dash is much better. It is softer and less like the "cheap hard plastics" that my last few trucks have been full of. Its just this lower area... Revenge of the crappy hard plastic panels, I guess!
