I'm sure this has been covered b/4 somewhere, but I gotta ask: If a person didn't have remote start and wanted to add it (with the reported very limited range of the factory remote start), why wouldn't a person rather go with an aftermarket remote start which has much better range? Just curious.

the answer: cost and warranty

An aftermarket remote will usually cost more and the factory warranty on the parts is worth it for some people. I know when I looked into it that was what I found.

I looked at all my options where I live and the dealer wanted $400 while the aftermarket options started at $400 and went all the way to $1,200. What most of the aftermarket stores around here did was show me one price ($300-800) and then say I needed $300-500 more in parts + installation. I was very disappointed when I found out that the factory system is the cheapest option.

In the end I decided the benefit wasn't worth the cost. Hope this helps.

Also you would be carrying 2 key fobs on your key chain if you went aftermarket. Not a big deal to me because I like the added functions available from the aftermarket, but I still wish there was a regular key to start the vehicle with...

What's the true range you guys are getting? My wife's 200 Limited w/remote start will not even make 150 ft. Fine for her but 300 ft would be the absolute minimum for me, "up to 300 ft" isn't gonna cut it.

My truck does not have remote entry...I have to actually put the key in the door lock to open it. Can I add the remote start kit to it?

The dealership wants $650 to install/program it for me.. I can get the SmartStart at BestBuy for $300+$120 for labor/Bypass... Just doesn't seem worth it for the OEM.
