the answer: cost and warranty
An aftermarket remote will usually cost more and the factory warranty on the parts is worth it for some people. I know when I looked into it that was what I found.
I looked at all my options where I live and the dealer wanted $400 while the aftermarket options started at $400 and went all the way to $1,200. What most of the aftermarket stores around here did was show me one price ($300-800) and then say I needed $300-500 more in parts + installation. I was very disappointed when I found out that the factory system is the cheapest option.
In the end I decided the benefit wasn't worth the cost. Hope this helps.
