Default Taking off the stock shifter?

I just got my new shift knob from custombilletstore.com, and i was wondering how you remove the stock shifter. I didn't want to try to remove it until someone that has done it chimes in.

Good question! Most of the MOPAR shifters I have seen are "lefty loosey, righty tighty" and just twist off. They do have a bit of thread locker on them so it does take quite the twist to get them off.

Others have a small release detent or clip at the base of the handle, usually on the front side of the shaft. You push the detent or clip in and twist or twist and lift.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was going to try twisting it off, but i don't want to break it if that's not how you take it off. I'll look for that release clip you were talking about first.

Twist the chrome piece at the bottom and it will twist off, pull up on the shifter. Do not have your face above it when you do so, everyone will laugh at your busted lip.

How hard do you have to twist the chrome piece? I tried but it didn't want to budge.

You dont twist it you just insert a flat head between the shifter and chrome piece pry down and it slides right off then the handle just pulls right off after the chrome piece the handle is just sitting on it.
