Default 2011 1500 Laramie Towing Mirror Upgrade

I wanted to share my experience with those of you who may want to do this. I was not really happy with my regular mirrors since I pull a trailer frequently so I inquired with my dealer about getting towing mirrors and I was told they did not make any for the Ram 1500's. I got on the forums and did some digging and found a part number for the 2011 Ram 2500 trucks. Part numbers: 68033735AH & 68033734AH (Left & Right) these are the chrome model. I sent the truck in for a few other things and while it was in I told them to order those parts and install them. I got a call the next day informing me that the RAM 1500 doors were not really strong enough to support these mirrors and the Mopar module MAY not be designed to support this mirror. I started asking questions and then asked to speak with the mechanic and the mechanic said he had installed these mirrors before with no problems with the module and they could do something to make the door frame strong enough to support the mirror. I told him to go for it. These mirrors supposedly are heated with blinkers, and puddle lights in them I will let everyone know as soon as I get the truck back as to how everything went. The images below are part numbers I listed.

Man, timing is horrible...

This past spring, when I bought MY Laramie, it had come from the factory with the Chrome towing mirrors specifically FOR the Laramie, with all of the features you listed, and even worked with the memory feature.

The dealer only had two Laramies on the lot, and BOTH had the towing mirrors. I don't tow anything wide, and didn't want the extra width for getting in and out of the garage. They ended up swapping them with some from a Big Horn, so I lost the chrome and the memory. They actually look very nice, but I would have PREFERRED the standard size chrome ones normally found on a Laramie. Essentially, I had to pay $100 to get a lessor mirror.

If you'd have been around back then, I would have gladly swapped you even up for them. Oh well...

Awe man that would have been great! The mirror upgrade is going to cost me and it hurts to say this but $567.60 plus labor :-( and that's dealer cost the normal price is $870.55 if I would have ordered the truck the towing mirrors were only a hundred dollar upgrade. Lesson learned the hard way.

Hey Herc, can you tell me if the towing mirrors that were on your truck originally look anything like the ones in my post, if so do you remember if they had puddle lights in them? I would greatly appreciate your response, this whole towing mirror thing has kind of been a nightmare.

Thanks Herc!!

I don't remember what they actually looked like for sure, but they had all of the features that the normal Laramie mirrors had: power, auto-dim, puddle lamps, heat, and position memory. They were NOT power folding, and you still had to manually turn them upright.

Here's what's listed in the brochure:

Power multifunction, heated, auto-dimming, folding, chrome, includes position
memory, exterior courtesy lamps and supplemental turn signal (GU4) (Standard on Laramie)

Power trailer tow multifunction, heated, auto-dimming, manual folding,
chrome, includes position memory, exterior courtesy lamps and supplemental
turn signal (GPC) (Optional on Laramie)

Hey Jgatlin, how did the mirrors worked out? Did they really had to reinforce the doors to install them. I have a sport crew cab and may go the same route as you and get the towing mirrors. Thanks for the info.

I have these mirrors mentioned above, they came with my 2011 RAM 1500 Laramie, and honestly, I doubt if they had to reinforce the doors when they put them on at the factory. JMO

These look just like the mirrors on my 1500 Outdoorsman. They have a light on the bottom side. They're black, not chrome.

Reinforce the doors? I had a VERY good laugh at this. Mirrors are made of plastic. The tow mirrors weigh like maybe 3-4 more pounds... I seriously hope you did not pay them to do "fake" work. People swap these with each other on this forum a dozen times a day and do it themselves with 15 minutes of work. They are plug and play essentially. "Reinforce the door"... HAHA I would be calling the Dodge Rep for your dealer location and be telling them what was said to you... Acting like plastic mirrors are heavy and cause problems with bending the door frame or something... Seriously makes me sick the things these stealerships do these days...
