Default weird engine issue

Hey guys,
sorry i havent posted in a while.. got busy with a side project(1971 Saab Sonett III)... anywho. I have noticed this issue a few times and reading some of the other threads around here I am getting a little worried... Sometimes when I start the truck doesnt matter if its cold outside or warm, my truck sounds funny... I know big help right? It sounds like I have an extra fan running and my engine seems to be a little sluggish. I just started the truck and I hear a little bit of ticking but it quickly goes away, opened the hood up and I can definaetly hear the lifters working... I can also smell a heavy odor of gas/exhaust fumes... Did any of this provide any help in describing any known issues? I hope that someone can help!

the extra fan sound could be your fan clutch, does it go away after driving it a bit?, also the gas fume smell could be a rich mixture/exhaust leak, which the leak could cause both a rich mixture and a tick sound, use a mechanic stehoscope to pin point the sound.

yea after I drive it for a while the sound goes away... I didnt think about the fan clutch and I forgot to mention that I got a engine light a few month ago and it had to do with the evap system and I think the error was for the evap canister(?) on the drivers side of the cab underneath. Do you think that could be the cause of the gas smell?

Do you have the same engine as mine that can run on that e85 biofuel? If so I read in the manual book that this could happen. I would refer to that book if I were you, I'm sorry I don't recall what you need to do if any thing or exactly what it was, but there was some thing in there stating this could happen. If you're using the e85, the mixture maybe off or some thing? IDK, sorry, not much help right!

You'll have an e85 decal of some sort some where on the truck. Unless it's a purchased used truck that some one could have removed it?

You can always go to Autozone and buy a fuel cleaning kit? Maybe needs a tune up? You know... Spark plugs, Airfilter, fuel cleaning kit, check cracks for gas cap and maybe an oil change?

Good luck bro!

yes if your canister is saturated with fuel you will smell fuel, that canister is full of charcoal and is used to send unspent fuel back to the engine to be reburnt, and if it doesnt purge correctly if will back up and you will smell fuel from time to time!!

most autopart stores should have it, price im not sure!, but it should not be superexpensive. No need to feel stupid, all of us have to ask ourselves questions like does has the truck got fuel!!! no pun intended
