Default Waxing a new truck or any new vehicle

I posted this in General Discussions but will post it here because I guess it is somewhat technical.

How soon can you wax your new truck? Years ago, one had to wait several months to let the paint cure or else you would screw up the paint. Maybe paints have changed so one does not need to be concerned about this. I also realize that waxes have improved and now we also have synthetic coatings. I am picking up my 2012 Laramie QC on Saturday and it's supposed to be a nice weekend so if it's OK to wax now I want to do it. Any recommendations on what's the best wax for the best shine? It's Black and Silver. The NEW Black!

Thanks,

Jim in Pa

I think it should be fine to wax the truck- just think, dealers will try to sell you a 'sealant' package that they'll slap right on the vehicle.........

65 Arboc-

Go to the main forum page and look for this forum: Dodge Ram Detailing and General Maintenance Forum under this will be a tab for Washing and Waxing. There is more information in there on the first page that should answer any of your washing/waxing questions. Best of luck!! (and congrats on the new truck!!) Edit: or just click here Washing & Waxing

If you have a dark colored vehicle , I would give "Natty's Paste Wax - Blue" a go. You can wax your truck the day you pick it up ... no worries there at all.

I use it on our 2 Jet Black BMW's and I have to say it is incredible. This weekend my 2012 RAM "Sagebrush" will be getting a treatment as well. And smells like bubble gum to boot Easy on, easy off and leaves your car/truck protected for a long long time. I wont use anything else.

"
Natty's Paste Wax is a very unique Carnauba wax that is long lasting and so simple to use. Natty's Paste Wax gives incredible clarity to any color, as well as protection from UV and the environment. There are two versions of this product. Original: Works best on Light colored vehicles such as Whites, Yellows, Silvers etc
BLUE: Works best on Dark Colored vehicles such as Black, Blue, Red, brown etc
If you would like to use this product on both Dark and Light colored vehicles we recommend you use the Blue formula.
  • Easy On/Easy Off
  • Carnuba Paste Wax
  • Use in Sun or Shade
  • Long Lasting Formula with Patented UV Light Absorbers
  • Super Clarity, Protection and Depth for all Finishes, Colors and Vehicles
"

And no, I do not work for them or am I affiliated in any way ... I just love the stuff.

Vehicles from dealers can be waxed right away because the painting process and curing times are different than what your local body shops are. Your vehicle was not painted in the last 30 days most likely, and the clearcoat is most likely cured rapidly through the manufactures special practices that they use for all vehicles.

Don't worry about it! Pick up some Collinite 845 and you'll be all set

Invest a few bucks in some good quality microfiber towels right off the bat. Autozone has a package containing polishing, washing and drying towels (different colors for different purpose). That will help you avoid swirls and fine scrathes on your finish.
