Default Update my vote on the torque converter poll

Hey,

I think I originally posted a "no problem found" for my torque converter. The truck now has about 5500 miles on it, and the noisy TC has reared its ugly head with a vengeance. I just got off the phone with the dealership, and they claim to have had no problems reported in regards to the TC noise. I think I'll call some other dealerships in the area. Is there a reference link for the STAR report here on the forum?

Thanks
Dan

Well the rattle at 900Hz harmonics (2700, 3600,...RPM) has been traced to the TC. Warrantee replacement this week. The dealer's being very good about it. Suppose to be ready Friday.

Besides taking a few days (Tues-Fri) and having a Town & Country minivan for a rental (covered by Dodge), having the TC replaced was the best service experience I've had. The service rep called me each day with a status report, they finished on schedule, and so far the rattle is gone. Whoooop!

I have about 16k miles on my truck and I have what I can only explain as a fan noise. It comes on at most cruising speeds...it just sounds like something gets real loud.

Then it goes away. I guess it's not a fan....it may be my TC screwing up?

Well, it looks like I have it now. Was at the dealer today for an oil change and tire rotation. Mentioned it to the service manager. When I brought up the fact I knew there was a star case open, he seemed a little irritated. Regardless, I have an appt. for Monday to have it checked out. More to come.

Likely they didnt do a dammmmm thing to your truck.
But i`ll bet they charged it off to chrysler though.
You`d be surprised what dealers will try to pull.

I worked over 35yrs as a wrench in dealerships,
i wish i had a dollar for everytime i saw dishonesty, i`d be the richest guy in the world.

Took my truck in this morning. Told them I had a hard downshift and a noise that might be related to the TC. For the harsh downshift, they flashed the PCM (181906P1 Module, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Reprogram) and that problem appears to be gone.

They could not replicate the TC noise but completed RRT 11-073 1819 (18190796 Module, Drivetrain Control (DTCM) - Reprogram). They thought this might correct the issue and asked me to drive it for a few days and let them know if it did not make the noise go away. So far, I have not heard the noise but I did not drive it much this afternoon. Will listen closely this week to see if it is indeed gone.

The dealer was very nice about it and told me to bring the truck back if the noise was not gone. Hopefully that won't be necessary.
