Default stock muffler sound?

My friend has an 09' 1500 and his exhaust is easily 4 times as loud as mine. His is all stock but I noticed his mufflers were close to half the size as mine. Did they change the exhaust over the 3 years cause his sounds like a true hemi dual and mine sounds like it has single exhaust.

there are different variations of the exhaust. the duals r not true but they do exit out as two pipes though.

I think different models have different mufflers depending on cab size, trim level(ST, Sport, Laramie), etc... I know my brothers big horn muffler is massive and the truck is very quiet, all the other rams in my family and friends rams (all "low" end models and sport models) have much smaller mufflers...

Does your friend have the 'Sport' model? If so, they have a different resonator (that's the small muffler like tings near the tail pipes, and they have a more 'aggressive note' to the exhaust.

He has an SLT crew cab. His exhaust looks exactly the same front to back with the exception of the much smaller mufflers. It's puzzling why dodge would do that per trim package.

The Sport is a package installed on the SLT model. Does he have chrome or body color bumpers. The Sport exhaust is not available on the standard SLT or Laramie.

BTW, you refer to mufflers (plural). The Rams only have 1 muffler...single or dual exhaust. In the dual exhaust setup, the muffler is a single 3" inlet and 2 2.5" outlets. The 2 outlet pipes have resonators which look like small mufflers. The ones on the Sport model as quite small....more like a bulge in the pipe.

My bad it is just one long muffler(pass side). He has Chrome bumpers and the standard entry 20" time. Not the type on the sports or bighorns.

Can you get a picture of his setup? As others have said the exhaust setup for dual exit is manifolds into a catted y pipe into a muffler with a 3" inlet and 2 2.5" outlets and then the two pipes with resonators near the tips. Not sure why his would be louder than yours unless he has a custom muffler. Also I have noticed no difference in sound between the sports and the other models with dual exit

Just to clarify, the stock duals are 2.25", not 2.5". I just don't want someone to read that then go buy a dual 2.5" out muffler lol.

is this real life?

was completely unaware of this. i love the stock exhaust and don't want to mess with it much, not looking to buy a magnaflow or anything like that. but if the Sport trim has a more aggressive stock sound i'd love to add this to my Big Horn. has anyone done this?
