Default How to Remove the clear plastic on the passenger side mirrors (turn signal)?

I'm thinking I can just wedge a flat head in there and pop the plastic off, as trying to pry with my hands didn't seem to work. Basically, I washed my truck earlier (no different then I ever have before) and when I was done I noticed moisture/condensation inside the driver's side clear plastic that covers/protects the turn signal. The passenger side is perfectly fine. So I need to remove the plastic piece and dry it out. Is wedging a flat head in there and prying it off the way to go? I don't see any screws but I don't want to chip my paint either so figured i'd ask.

Are you talking about the puddle lights on the bottom of the mirrors? If so I'm pretty sure there's no way to open those, they're sealed. I say this because I had water in one of mine and the dealer replaced the entire mirror assembly.

thanks for the responses guys. Yes, i'm talking about the clear plastic strip on the bottom of the driver's and passenger side mirrors. My Driver's side has condensation/water inside, the passenger side is fine. I figured I could just pop off the clear plastic somehow and dry it out but I guess that wouldn't alleviate the problem as this would occur next time as well im sure. So i'll do what you guys suggest and take it to the dealer to have it replaced. But I am a little baffled as to what would someone do if the turn signal light burns out on one or both of the "puddle" lights? There's no way we could open and replace the bulbs on the side mirror puddle lights?

Those lights aren't turn signals (at least on my truck). They're puddle lights, meant to come on when you open a door or unlock the truck, that's pretty much it.

Check to see if there is a screw on the inside. Like behind the actual mirrors

This can be done, but is not for the faint of heart. If you attempt this, you are doing so at your own risk!

- Start by operating the mirror to the fully down position.
- Grasp the top edge of the mirror, and pull it further then the adjuster did...this will release the top clips.
- Look down inside to see the lower hinge style clips...separate them and remove the mirror glass.
- Disconnect the heated mirror wires (if applicable)

- Locate and remove the 3 screws that hold on the mirror cover.
- Remove cover

- Locate latch tab for LED lighting unit and release
- Gently pry the LED unit from the housing.
- This might take some persistence, and the weather seal sometimes hangs on to the unit and resists it's removal.

Good Luck!

Awesome info brad, I didn't think this could be done at all... but hoefully they have somewhere they can get a new mirror cut... just in case.

Just an update. I took my Truck into a local dealer yesterday and they had to order the mirror assembly which should be there by next week when it will be replaced under warranty. While I was there the service adviser noticed there was a TSB for the HVAC Control head and a reprogram/update which I had done. So i'll go back next week and get the new mirror assembly installed. I just have a question to those who have had this done already. Does the replacement mirror come 'UPGRADED' to prevent this issue in the future? Meaning, has Dodge actually CORRECTED the issue with the replacement part? If not, a brand new mirror isn't gonna do much as this will likely occur again in the future. So if anyone knows what the cause of the issue was and if it was actually "fixed" with the new mirror, that would be great to know. Thanks in advance.

@upstater,

on my 2010 R/T the lights are both puddle lights and turn signal lights. The puddle lights are a nice blueish/white which match my HIDs and the upgraded interior led lights I installed by Recon. The turn signal lights are yellowish and add as an additional turn light to the turn signal near the headlights. Even with a ton of moisture inside my driver's side casing, both the turn signal and puddle lights still work fine. Hopefully someone that had theirs upgraded will chime in on whether Dodge made the replacement parts any better then the original. Or as I mentioned, this is likely going to happen again.
