I can tell you the difference between those two intakes. The expensive one comes with a carb #. Not a big deal for anyone who lives outside of california, but for those of us in california without that number wont pass smog....that and they're "illegal" (fix it ticket)

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I am in Cali, what do you mean by Carb #? I passed smog already but will have to again in 2 years.

All shops are required by law (some dont) to look for a carb # (california air resources board) on all aftermarket intakes stating that the intake meets all smog requirements. basically the company has to pay for the carb # from the government so they pass the cost onto the consumer...

Like i said, all shops are required to input the carb number if there's an aftermarket intake, but some dont do it. Also if a cop pulls you over and pops your hood (happens more with hondas/acuras/toyotas with fart can mufflers) if there isn't a carb number on the intake they can legally impound your vehicle for 30 days (approx. cost is $1000+)....cop has to have a reason to look under your hood, which can be as minor as having an exhaust/lift/tint. Just depends on how big of a prick the cop is.

I don't know if it's my heavy foot or what, but the biggest thing i noticed wasn't gas mileage, but the sound coming from the engine bay. I stand by volant CAI's, so i've spent a pretty big penny on my intake.

Default my experience

I purchased a cheaper spectre CAI instead of a KN&N and boy was that a mistake I mean it works and it has a heat shield but the quality compared to a KN&N is not comparable and the fact that is wistles annoyes the heck out of me im asuming that its because its a metal intake instead of a plastic one so im trying a fix for that now by coating the outside of the tube with bed liner so ill either have an ugly intake tube that wistles or an ugly intake tube that is quite either way its worth a try so spend the extra bucks if listening to the intro of andy griffith every day dosent sound like a way you want to drive to work lol

Exclamation to scrimp or not....

Differences are price, quality, and fitment. I bought one online for $25 and works great. Fit well, no real issues. The one thing i will say is replace the kit filter with a K&N... Insurance you know. You can count on its integrity. Other than that... An inexpensive kit will produce, just use common sence and research to get optimum results.
