I've driven my friends Eco boost, my brothers 5.0 and my dads hemi. I wasn't impressed with the Eco boost and then I got on it....

Needless to say, he didn't like my answer too much....

I'd rather pay 3.50 to fill up my RAM then drive off in something that sounds like a pissed off bumble bee (ford ECO-buzzzzzz)... The thought of having a eco has NEVER crossed my mind...

besides with TWO turbos, I would hope it would be faster.

Also, I hope nothing goes wrong with the motor after 60, 000 miles.... can we say bye bye warranty..."

I can understand how you feel, but the great american public is not going to buy 13 mpg trucks when the competition screams that their trucks get 50 percent better mileage for long. like it or not probably the wave of the future

My truck has never seen 13 mpg, granted its DSP tuned and beat on im still seeing 17mpg all day and 22 on the highway

Here we go again with folks exaggerating their city mpg numbers. I don't believe any of you are getting 15mpg+ city as long as were talking Hemi 4x4's. Your dash might be telling you this (dash numbers are always slightly generous). I guarantee if you fill your tank and empty it doing nothing but normal city driving, your manual calculations will tell you the truth. You'll be under 15mpg. I highly suggest you buy a "scan gauge II" OBD tool. The numbers are much more accurate than factory dash mpg displays.

As for the Ecoboost, there's hardly anything eco about it. The EPA numbers aren't vastly different than those of Ram.

Hemi 4x4 City - 13mpg
Ecoboost 4x4 City - 15mpg

Hemi 4x4 Hwy - 19mpg
Ecoboost 4x4 City - 21mpg

Where the eco boost shines is usable power. check out the torque curve.

Give credit where its due boys. If you want power, the direct injected, twin turbo v6 is badass. Anyone that laughs this engine off is in denial. I prefer Ram because of styling and the functionality of the rambox but if the f-150 ecoboost was actually getting these "talked about" 25 mpg combined numbers, i would be in one in a heartbeat.

For me, fuel economy is just as important as functionality. MPG numbers might not mean much to you guys in the gas subsidized United States, but to the rest of us paying REAL gas prices, its a big deal.

Bingo.
"well its twin turbo..." it's also tuned to be a useable truck, it could be easily tuned for higher numbers but like Kev mentioned a useable power curve is what's important in a truck (ie best in class trailer towing capability)
Just look at the diesel wars. Same motors with a bump in the tuning/performance to edge each other out

well, my 2011 laramie regularly gets 13mpg in the city and maybe 17 on the highway, never 17 in city and never ever 22 on the highway.......

hand calc, rural diving 15.9 mpg
hwy between 20 and 21 mpg.

this is driven, not quite like grand ma but no where near the way a hemi should be driven. in other words, no jack rabbit starts and take my time getting up to 70 mph on the hwy. rcsb 4x4 3.55 gears.

seems to me ford added there diesel technology to a gasoline engine and on paper it should turn out to a good engine, but we have to consider fords engine track record.
i have no doubt that the pentastar engine will soon be available with at least a single turbo and may one day replace our hemi. hopefully by the time i have to deal with which engine do i get, 7 or 8 years from now, the engine will be at least as good as my hemi.

And what records that? The 300 ci I6, 302ci V8, 351ci V8, 5.4L tritons? As far as I know any of the Ford built motors never really had any significant problems including the new ford built "powerstroke"

Early Tritons (4.6 and 5.4) were known to blow spark plugs out of the block. By the mid 2000s, it was rectified.
Early 6.0 powerstrokes were known to blow head gaskets. Millions of $$$ in warranty repairs that led to the 6.0 being scrapped in favor of the 6.4.

Ford had indeed had some stellar successes engine wise (you mention the 300ci inline 6 and early 5.0 (302), and I'll add the 7.3 powerstroke and 4.0 V6 to the list.

I'll have to agree that the Ecotec is great new tech, but time will tell the longevity of that engine- especially when tuners start playing with it.

Even the highline manufacturers are doing it, I used to own a 2004 Audi S4 4.2 V8, and its now a V6 turbo......
