My brother had the all terrain tread wrights on his Cherokee. He really liked them. When he had them mounted and balanced the guy didn't even realize they were retreads till my brother asked him how balancing was since they were retreads.

I've seen more things go wrong with retreads than most since they're a favorite for a lot of the truckers and hotshot drivers in the oil field. Now, if they're dedicated mud/offroad tires them they're fine, but if they're not kept inflated properly, they have a higher failure rate, especially on highway driving.

Dunno about the high failure rate....most OTR trucks use recaps and pound millions of miles out of them yearly.

This was true when the caps were glued/stapled on. Now they are completley vulcanized and or re-molded, no longer a major issue (no more so than a new tire having tread seperate, which is rare but can happen).

Most blow outs are caused by improper inflation, There is just as good of a chance of a blow out with a brand new tire as a retread

under inflation causes a heat build up
asphalt roads can easily reach 140 F or 60 C
semi trucks run retreads on everything except the steering axle

I used to work on the highways & in more recent years, there are less GATORS, separated tread, on the highways & more trucks then ever before

retreads & steel rims are used by many people in winter conditions

I put about 5,000 miles on a set of treadwrights. They were fine, were on my Jeep when I traded it in for the Ram.
