Default replacing shock with 2" longer Daystars

has anyone replaced only the shock instead of replacing the entire assembly? If so is it something I can pull off in my driveway? I'm trying to avoid paying a ton for 2 quick struts. Also, if this is something I can do will a shock that is 2" longer than a stock shock fit the same inside the spring and on the mount without any mods?

Thanks.

Then you can get ride height adjustable shocks to raise your trucks front end. A regular shock that is two inch longer isn't going to do anything.
When you mention daystar, you can also install spacers to level the front of the truck and install +2" shocks to compensate the difference in your ride.
It's not a hard task to install new struts, it is a little involved but manageable with basic tools

sounds easy enough. thanks for the input. Do you know if removing the strut from the spring requires any special tools? ie. spring compressor, etc...

Anyone have any advice on some good ride adjustable shocks, affordable and durable. I dont have much experience with these and would like to hear what everyone else thinks rather than read product descriptions.
