Default Want your opinions on better high beam headlights.

I have a 2011 Ram 1500 Tradesman. Maybe it's just me and I'm getting old (65), but it's getting harder for me to see things at night while driving. I'm thinking that the stock high beam headlights could be better/brighter, wider, etc. Have any of you tried other bulbs? I don't wanna go the HID route just yet. I first wanna try some different bulbs. Tell me what you've tried and what worked best. Also like to know what to stay away from. Please provide manufacture and part number.

Thanks guys (and girls).
Luv this forum

I'm with you. I want better lights but the HID/TPMS issue limits us. I used Sylvania SilverStars in previous cars and got a little improvement. Don't have any part numbers for the Ram silverstars yet. Prices range from $15-$30 depending on the style. I'm holding out in hopes that someone comes up with a solution to the HID/TPMS problem.

If your not looking to go the HID route look into any sort of PIAA bulb. IMO silverstars arent much more than a WHITER light than stock type bulbs.

You could also go with LED, though I have never seen how they do in hi beam applications

Try Phillips CrystalVision. They are 4300-5k temperature (just about bright daylight with very little blue tint) and should drop in to your stock housings. That will make things brighter but the light pattern will be the same unless you change housings.

im looking at changing the bulbs also as i dont want to go the route of changing out the housing yet, though i havent seen the Philps brand in any of the shops ive been in so my only option (as it seems) is the Silverstars

just picked up a pair of the PIAA bulbs. now all i gotta figure out is how to get the old ones out and the new ones in

I'd like to change mine too. Is it easy to replace the bulbs? Thanks, Denis.

I have silver star ultras for hi and low and they are a lot better than the stock bulbs! I rarely use my high beams anymore

Default Piaa

Well, after reading and reading and reading more, I finally opted for some PIAA Extreme White Plus bulbs. I have the 2 headlight (as opposed to 4) system so my truck uses the H13 bulb. They are noticibly better than the stock bulbs. I was considering some of the really bright bulbs, but tales of melted wiring harness's etc scared me off.
As for changing them, it is a PITA... If you can get your head in the wheel well to actually see how the sliding lock tab works, its easy. Two bolts accessed from the top (under the rad/grill plastic cover) and then the sliding tab. Good luck..
