Default Arrington cam write up...4th Gen

Ok I've been debating on writing this for a day or so b/c I was really disappointed with my numbers but here it goes...

first things first - I've never had the truck dyno'd before so I don't have any baseline numbers but it seems like most 4th gens dyno in the 31Xs. I know everyone wants a number so my final was 339rwhp and about 335 rwq. The torque is hard to interpolate b/c the number wasn't printed off to the side like the hp number. I had an 87 octane tune and a 93 octane tune written.

I bought the 09-10 Arrington VVT cam but the specs on the website are not correct. When I get home I'll scan post the dyno sheet and the cam specs.

initial drive with 93 octane tune - the rpms definitely climbed a helluva lot quicker and she felt quicker...power really seemed to kick in around 3400+ rpms. needless to say she is even more fun to drive now.

initial drive with 87 octane tune - quicker than the diablo 87 tune but still smooth for everyday driving. the best part is the slightly different exhaust note. the idle really didn't change much but under low rpm cruise and when MDS kicks in it is awesome. everyone knows that if you remove the resonators with a catback system (I have a full magnaflow) there is a slight drone. well, not anymore. not a single bit. sound clip to follow.

why I'm disappointed is I was expecting a little higher hp #....like 350rwhp or so. My mods are: aFe stage II, magnaflow catback, cam, custom y-pipe, mechanical fan removed and the custom tune. I know it's not all about the dyno its about what she'll run time wise. I know I could go back tomorrow and it might dyno a little higher or a little lower depending on the environmentals. it's just that saw a dyno of an R/T with K&N CAI, magnflow and custom tune that was 330rwhp...so I had a ballpark # in mind.

would I do it again...yes because of my initial drive. and yes b/c now if I throw a set a longtunes on there the benefits will be even better. with the cam out of the way the L/Ts can be done in my garage no problem. so I guess I need to take this c/c pig to the track. again, she's never been so no baseline run to compare. I'll try to resist thinking about what time to expect. lol.

sorry I can't post the dyno and sound clips yet. no kidding I dropped my truck off on tuesday afternoon and wednesday my wife went into labor. now I hope the women don't yell at me but thursday afternoon right before they closed I found time to sneak out of the hospital and have a buddy take me to pick up the truck. once we go home tomorrow I'll make good on the details this weekend and with a few more miles I'll post mpg.

Imaginary points for keeping me in suspense. (no not really, it looks like I have to spread the points around). Congratulations on the new family member!

Hmm. The dyno number isn't impressive but with my mods I'm excited to do the same thing. I see a trip to inertia on my next vacation as a real possibility! Keep up the good work!!!

those are decent numbers considering the mods, and yes, too bad you didn't have a baseline. I bet you would have been impressed with the numbers if you did. Last time I dynoed my numbers were 370hp/390tq...but again, the track is where you want to see your gains...lookin forward to your vids

yeah I know that's why I was kinda bummed but the 3.55s will also dyno about 10rwhp +/- higher than 4.10s.

I am thinking of pairing my cam with a torque converter from inertia or maybe the stage 3 valve body from sheraton. would that help with the loss of hp in our trannies, or just firm up shifts? this is the first vehicle ive modded so im new to the world, but a quick learner...

I don't know if a new tc will help with the hp loss but it'll sure help with launching and knock a few tenths off your 1/4 times. go too high and I think it becomes a PITA around town. I think higher stalls also build more heat but maybe someone will correct me.

this is the first automatic and Ram (for that matter) I've ever owned...so I'm learning to. I'll def keep writing things up as I learn them!
