Default Removing Factory Body Bolt for Nerf Bars

I'm having the hardest time removing the factory body bolt on the front driver and passenger sides of my 2011 dodge ram to install the nerf bar body support brack. I'm just using a wratchet. Am I going to be able to accomplish this without some kind of special tool? I'm putting all my weight into it and its doesn't seem to be loosening at all.

Any comments or words of encouragement are appreciated.

I had the same issue. I used a friends impact wrench to loosen those bolts. The bolts are buried in tight, so a ratchet wont work.

When I installed mine I used a ratchet and got them off with a little foot pressure.. there are lock tight on the threads so u have to get that broken away then its all good.

Try slipping a piece of pipe over the handle of your ratchet to give you some leverage. Once the lock tite is broke loose it will come out.

Oh yeah, you need to make sure you reinstall the bolt with more lock tite. You don't want it to back out while your going down the road.

I used an impact wrench to break them loose. I also used my impact to get them back on, left them loose of course so I could level. Then I used my torque wrench to torque them back down.

EDIT: By the way the torque spec for those bolts is 80 ft/lbs.

try a spray called "Freeze Off", I don't know why, but I broke a Craftsman 1/2 drive rachet when doing my wife's VW rear brakes, I used a pipe extension and a bottle jack and still couldn't budge the bolts, but I did break the rachet...by chance I found this product at my auto parts store, sprayed the same bolts, let them sit for a few minutes, and almost knocked my self out with the rachet handle, as the bolts became instantly loose and so easy to remove....couldn't believe it, it was really like magic....I will never be without a can of this stuff in my garage again.....

Isn't Freeze-Off more of a rust penetrant? I think the issue is more of bolts being installed by a gorilla with a impact wrench. I am amazed how tight these guys call install filters.

I don't know what is in it, but it sure made easy work of some factory bolts that wouldnt budge any other way, and that I had put so much force on, my rachet actually broke..... I had my rachet, a piece of pipe slipped over it's handle and a bottle jack under that...bolt wouldn't budge, a littler "freeze off" a few minutes later, the bolts came loose with just a short rachet, nothing else, same on the other side....like I said, it was magical......
