The front marker lights and the cab clearance lights are powered by Fuse 'F' (20A).
This fuse supplies battery power via the Pink/Red wire to connector C1-Pin2 of the light switch.
The light switch connects this power to to the Black/Yellow wire in connector C1-Pin1, either the park or headlight position.
That wire connects to a splice joint that distributes the power on the same wire color to the 2 front marker lights and the 5 cab clearance lights which have separate grounds.
Also from that splice the wire continues to another splice that distributes power to the tail lights and license plate lights.

Based on this, the problem keeps pointing at the switch, as if there was a splice issue, that the lights would not work regardless of the switch position.

Can you check for power at the light switch on the Pink/Red, then on the Black/Yellow that's right beside the Pink/Red. It should be on the Pink/Red all the time, and on teh Black/Yellow in both the headlight and park light switch positions.

This is a strange one!
Okay I am getting exactly the opposite results, always on with the yellow and only on with pink/red in between stops. Odd.

So on the plug side, with the plug loose from the switch, B1 and D are hot all the time. When I plug it into the switch B3 goes hot, all the time.

It appears there is a problem with the power feeding the switch on the Pink/Red wire in pin 2.

With C1 disconnected (14 pin connector), and looking into the pin side of the connector with the locking tab on top the pins are numbered as
-7 -- 6 -- 5 -- 4 -- 3 - - 2 -- 1
14 - 13 - 12 - 11 - 10 -- 9 -- 8

Wires Colors -
Pin1 - Black/Yellow
Pin2 - Pink/Red
Pin3 - Light Blue
Pin4 - Black/Orange
Pin5 - Black/Orange
Pin6 - Light Green
Pin7 - Light Blue

Pin8 - Yellow/Black
Pin9 - Black/Orange
Pin10 - White
Pin11 - Pink/Dark Blue
Pin12 - Yellow
Pin13 - Pink/Light Blue
Pin14 - Tan

Power for the tails/markers is supplied on pin2 (Pink/Red)
When the lights are turned on it is switch to pin1 (Black/Yellow)

The Yellow wire in pin 12 has nothing to do with this.

With this connector disconnected, verify that there is constant power at pin 2 (Pink/Red). If it's NOT there -
1) Check Fuse 'F' (20A). There should be power on both sides of this fuse. If there is power at the fuse, follow the Pink/Red wire from the fuse to the switch and repair as necessary. Be careful here, as this wire is live all the time.

Default Connector question

Thanks Brad. Now a stupid question, what pin connector are we talking about? The plug that attaches to the switch? There are only 9 wires on the plug. The pink with red tracer in the center of the plug is hot all the time. The black with yellow tracer is hot in between stops on the switch. When the black with yellow tracer is hot all the clearance lights, park lights and tail lights are on. Pull the switch all the way out and only the headlights are on, high and low beam both work.

Alrighty Then!

Fortunately the Pink/Red and Black/Yellow do the same function.

I have very limited info on this model year....in fact, I don't have all the wiring drawings for the light switch, just some of them. I hope I have enough to help you through this.

The Pink/Red wire should be connected to terminal 'B2', and the Black/Yellow should be connected to terminal 'L7'. Is this the case with yours?

Pink and red connect to B2 on the switch and black with yellow tracer go to an unmarked spade directly beside B2.

Is it possible that the terminal on the Pink/Red wire is loose? If it wasn't for the fact that you have already replaced the switch numerous times, I say it's the switch.

If possible, try to tighten the metal terminal in the connector so it mates better on the switch. Check the other wires as well. This whole thing just does not make sense.

Default 96 3500 lighting issues

I'll give it a try but its a brand new switch and a brand new plug. I think tomorrow I'll go down to Dodge and buy a new switch from the dealer. If I get the same symtoms I'll buy some toggle switches and hook them up so it works. What doesn't make sense is that I get clearance lights and tail lights inbetween stops on the switch. All the lights will come on but just not at the same time as the headlights.

To bad you don't have another truck of the same year range to test the switch on. I'm just wondering if any of the wires got mixed up in the connector replacement.

This is one of those times I'd give my eye teeth to have the truck in my shop. I absolutely love a challenge like this.
