Cool Something Burning smell ???

Has anyone had a smell like hot plastic from their truck. Most of my driving is highway so the truck gets hot and I noticed this odor that I can't locate where its coming from other then from under the truck. I've checked along the exhaust that diesel exhaust is big I can't see where it comes in contact with anything, my CB antenna coax isn't making contact with the exhaust. I've thought maybe the factory bed liner got on the exhaust some where . But I have 6300 mi on it I would think whatever is burning should be burnt up by now. The only other thought is that this diesel doesn't have the same smell as my previous 3 diesels, 2 Fords 1 Chevy.

Not too sure about this as I don't have a diesel, but a lot of manufacturers of low emission diesel engines are using an additive to reduce pollutants. I know that the Fords and VW's are doing that but not sure about other manufacturers. Anyway, point is that this may be the source of the unfamiliar odors. Just a thought.

I know on both my wife's and my truck when I first got them there was a "burning" smell from them after driving them a while. The dealership said it would go away so I started looking under my wife's truck as soon as she climbed out of it after driving it for a while when we first noticed it and it turned out to be stickers all over the exhaust and some were on the heat shields where the resonators are as well. After they all burned off after a couple/three weeks of driving around we don't smell it anymore. This was also true of my Express as well. That being said I would look underneath as soon as you throw it into park after driving it for a while and look around to be sure. They are made of a thick plastic material and will be smoldering.

I had a 2010 CTD for a year (bought new) and I noticed the same smell at times when it got up to good operating temp for a while. It was kind of a burning plastic smell, like you said.

It's a common occurrence with the CTDs, and it goes away after a while. I started noticing it after a couple thousand miles of driving. It was most noticeable when I stopped the truck during a regen cycle, which is when the extra shot of fuel goes into the cylinders to heat up and burn off the soot in the DPF.

It's not a problem, and once all the "new" burns away, the smell will go away too.

No indicator for most regens, unless you get the message "DPF 80% Full" when you're supposed to take it on the highway for 45 minutes or so. I never got that message on my 2010, I think because I used it mostly for towing, and rarely used it as a grocery getter.

The only indication of the passive regens is seeing the lie-o-meter miles per gallon reading drop by a few digits. I noticed a minor lack of power at times while towing too.

I have been noticing the smell of burning oil/rubber on my 2013 Laramie lately.. It seems like it coming from underneath the truck as it is strong between the cab and the box. The truck has 12000 kms on it so I am convinced that it is not from stickers on the exhaust system as mentioned in previous posts. Anyone have any answers on what may be the cause of this?
