Default Bedrug, bedlights, and cargo switch done.

Finally got around to putting some lighting in my bed. With the bedrug, Fold-aCover G4, and bedlights, I could camp back there if I needed to!

First want to give a shout out to RansRAM who gave me the idea to use my cargo lighting switch in the dash to trigger the lights. He has some pretty good pics in this thread which show some of his wiring.

I know I could have just installed a switch in the bed somewhere, or just put a switch somewhere else, but that wouldn't have been as much fun so I decided to find a way to get the cargo switch to work. Not as easy as the wire that comes off that switch apparently won't actually power the lights.

First, got some rolls of LED lights off ebay. I think I paid less than $10 for both sides (4' each side) because I waited three weeks for the slow boat from Hong Kong.

I put the lights under the bed rails, and tucked the wires behind the bedrug. The wires then run out of the drainholes in the bed, then back up into the truck behind the drivers seat.

Then, using RansRam's location of the trigger wire (seen in the link above), I found the white/tan wire in the bundle by the rear doors. I ran a hot wire from the battery, a lead to the switch, ground, and tied it all into a relay. Now the power for the lights comes from a line off the battery (in-line fuse of course) and this power is triggered hot by the lead off the cargo lights into a relay. Result? lights in the bed and the cargo lights come on with the switch inside the cab.

I just drew a diagram of the relay instead of trying to get the relay lined up to snap a pic.

Here are some night shots.

I like your style G. Unfortunately you're beating me to the punch on some of these mods and it's going to look like I'm copying your truck! Damn you! ;^) I too am asking for the BedRug for Christmas and this will be done shortly after ward if not before. Nice job!

Excellent job there bud. Nice to see that my efforts have been useful to other members. I am a bit jealous though as your lights are much brighter than mine, LOL. I love that bed rug and I am seriously considering getting one for mine as the plastic factory bed liner kind of sucks.

Thanks everyone. This was a fun mod for sure this time. Running wires, figuring out the relay, and tucking it all nice together for a result I'm happy with!

Funny thing, I have never even used a relay in anything until this project. Since I got my Ram in April, I have learned a lot around here and had some fun doing it.

LOL, thanks Barnyard. It's nice to see people follow up on whats already been done here. One of the greatest things about this site is finding new ideas and using them to make your ride even better. It's not copying, its "improving". I promise to keep you on your toes as I have a couple more mods in the works you can follow up with as well.

You will love the bedrug. As durable as the plastic liner, but better looking IMO. Thanks again for the direction; only reason I could make them brighter was cause of your posts first.

I'm glad I could give you a mod to do. You already forced me to do the foot well lighting cause of your posts, its only fair I return the favor! Below is a pic I also took that night of the drivers side floor. I wasn't going to post these up yet as I have a few touches to do (and its dirty).
