So it will turn off if the seats are not on as well? Perhaps I missed that...or perhaps its obvious and I missed that.

Good to know it has a thermo stat that shuts it down after a certain temperature.

On my 2010, the steering wheel is completely independent of the seats.

Hi everyone, I am new to this site and found out about it because I experienced the exact same problem as described in the original posting. I have a 2011 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn with the heated steering wheel. It would turn on and turn off after about 5 seconds, then it would refuse to stay turned on. I could turn the truck off and restart it and it seemed to work fine then. I just got back from the dealership and they said it has a bad Clock Spring and it is probably due to something done at the factory. It is covered under warranty so I am getting it fixed free. This may be a common problem, so I hope this helps everyone.

Hey guys, sorry I never put up the solution. There is a wire harness that runs down the side of the passenger part of the truck. When the truck was assembled they pinched the wire between 2 of the panels. It eventually cut through the wires. So the truck couldn't didn't think the heated seats or steering wheel were there. The dealership replaced the wire and everything is working.

I have 2013 longhorn expiriancing the same issue this morning. I pulled over to restart the truck and see if it wold stay on. It was still dark out and I saw a flash from some sort of spark come from my driver side foot well. Scared me, don't wont a fire, so I left it alown. I will try to find the source this week on my days off and update here. Just thought I should warn everyone of a possible fire hazard related to my issue.

I had the same problem, in both my 2012 Ram and 2012 Challenger, took into dodge it was a broken wire under the drivers seat, I check to see what the dealer did and he soldered the wire together and taped, No idea how it broke. Now I just have to fix the Challenger
