Default dead key fob

So I'm trying to get into my truck and the fob is just not working! I take the key out of the fob, open the door and now the alarm is honking away. I put the fob in the ignition and nothing. To sum up fob dead, alarm blowing, and now the fob is stuck in the ignition!!

I call the dealership and they say to take the key lock and unlock the door. This doesn't work. Now the tech is saying I need a jump cause the battery might be dead!?!?!?! My response was can you hear how loud the horn is, no way the battery is dead. After a few mins and the horn now stopped the tech at dealership says I need to have the truck towed in. Seriously! There is no way to by pass alarm? My answer was a no. CALL MYSTERIOUSLY GOT DISCONNECTED

After doing a search on my phone I read that I needed to disconnect the battery for a few mins which will reset computer, in turn releasing my key fob so I can get a new batter for it (CA2032). WHAT A HEADACHE!!!

I now keep a small inventory of CA2032 batteries in my truck.....

Good idea for the extra batteries! I bought and extra fob for such occasions, and yes I have used it once when the keys fell out of my pocket in between the seats!

I have 2 key fobs. But I travel a lot for work, and one day when I was away from the house (where the other key fob was) it decided to die, thats only after the truck was 5 months old. I used the key to open the door, alarm going off, I just put the fob into the ignition and the alarm stopped. It started just fine. Long story short, I then went to walmart and got a few extra batteries for such occasions. Just glad that when I put the key fob into the ignition it stopped the alarm and started, cuz I would have been screwed. Sorry to hear of your issues and hope you got it fixed, sometimes the service techs just dont have a clue about certain things..

You must have had a stuck button on your Keyfob, as a CR2032 battery should provide several years of normal use.

I thought I read that even with a dead keyfob battery, that the chip inside the fob would still allow the engine to start? Can anyone confirm this?

I have purchased two spare keys from eBay, had them cut/programmed by the dealer and they start the truck. They don't have a battery inside, as it's just a key with a chip.

My Evic told me the other day my FOB battery was low, so I got some new batteries the other day and I havent seen the message again and I been using both FOBs to see which one it is. So I guess when it tells me again I will be ready. (FYI they are both off they key rings they normally would be on, so I dont know which is which). I guess I will have to put them back on the key rings to narrow it down.

My Keyfob just stopped working on me. I did go and replace the battery and it still won't work! gggrrr it is less than a year old and the second one that I got when I bought the truck works just fine. Anyone else had this problem? Not sure what to do or if there is anything I can do besides coughing up the coin for a new one. Thanks for any information!

Before you replace the fob, double check to make sure you have the CR2032 battery in the correct orientation. Try another battery in case maybe you got one that is bad.
