Default MPG drop explanation?

When I brought my truck home I got about 180 miles on half a tank of gas which isn't great. I replaced the muffler with an 18" magnaflow and have been running premium gas and it's dropped to about 150 miles on half a tank which is very poor in my opinion. Is it possible a better muffler and gas could have hindered my performance? I don't drive it any harder so I know that's not te cause. Does the truck and/or muffler need a breaking in period? Could the muffler shop have done something to hurt MPG? It is really frustrating to say the least.
