It is always interesting to browse the individual years for this truck. You will always see posts regarding the shock and usually displeasure when people discover that their chrome rims are actually chromed plastic. I have started this poll to see who was aware of this when they purchased the vehicle.
It is really interesting to see everyone's comments about the wheels as I worked on them for many years. It is a real shame that dealers are not more informed and many of you are justified if you feel like you were mislead.
However, I would offer that some of the comments in the poll are incorrect, Three points I would like to offer:
1) They are not "fake" - they use the same high quality chrome used in grilles with a full layer of copper, nickel and chrome (Cu-Ni-Cr).
2) They are not "cheap" - I worked on many programs that could not afford them. Proof of the cost can be as simple as looking at which companies use them - Mercedes = yes, Audi = yes, Hyundai = No, Kia = No.
3) They were invented because traditional chrome-plated wheels are not very durable and warranty costs were very high. Chrome-clad wheels are much more durable.
In the end though, you have every right to dislike them if you wish. especially if the salesperson did not tell you about the construction, the benefits and allow you to make a choice.
