Biggest issue I have with my chrome clads isn't with the chrome. Its the aluminum rim that shows around the outside. The clearcoat is flaking off all over and is really corroded. Don't know how to fix, assume I will have to get new rims....

I have had my truck for about 3 weeks and was unaware until this week, a little disappointing. However i am wondering if they make different finishes as a cheaper alternative to buying new rims, can i just get a black chrome "hubcap"?

Didn't know until I ripped them off to Plastidip them this past weekend. Not really surprised, just pretty low budget...

I knew the covers were plastic, before I bought mine, from my research.
I have no problem with them and I hope they will require less maintenance.

Angry

I wasn't aware of them being plastic until the first time I washed the truck and heard the water from the pressure washer hit it... I was a little bit ticked off! I'll just be using them as my winter rims now anyway, but it made me a little bit angry that they advertise them as being chrome!!! Cheap bastards!!!

Default Fake Chrome

I didnt know about the plastic thing till I performed my first wash. This is my third dodge first was an 04 with the polished aluminum spokes...they were great but I bent 2 without knowing when it happened. My 2010 had the silver painted alloys and I like those alot, then my 11 with plastichrome. I was upset at first but after thinking about it aluminum pits from salt.. if the chrome falls off these you can always glue on another set but I dont think winter will hurt the plastic much

I dont think you can just Glue on another set....First you would have a bitch of a job to get them off & i dont think you can get OEM replacements. I had my first set of wheels replaced under warranty for the chrome peeling off the plastic & the second set were crapp as well. I have gone after market now & am much happier.

It is really interesting to see everyone's comments about the wheels as I worked on them for many years. It is a real shame that dealers are not more informed and many of you are justified if you feel like you were mislead.

However, I would offer that some of the comments in the poll are incorrect, Three points I would like to offer:

1) They are not "fake" - they use the same high quality chrome used in grilles with a full layer of copper, nickel and chrome (Cu-Ni-Cr).

2) They are not "cheap" - I worked on many programs that could not afford them. Proof of the cost can be as simple as looking at which companies use them - Mercedes = yes, Audi = yes, Hyundai = No, Kia = No.

3) They were invented because traditional chrome-plated wheels are not very durable and warranty costs were very high. Chrome-clad wheels are much more durable.

In the end though, you have every right to dislike them if you wish. especially if the salesperson did not tell you about the construction, the benefits and allow you to make a choice.
