i've been a member on the Challenger side of the Z since 3/10 and they have/had a similar thread... i bought a '10 R/T Classic which comes with solid forged, polished, aluminum rims and i knew about the regular R/T's that had the CC wheels... i also heard/read that they are fairly scratch resistant and pretty resilient wheels so i had no problem getting CC's on the RAM... as others have mentioned, easy to clean and ever so shiny...

Chrome Clads are the FARTHEST thing from scratch resistant or resilient
if you live in an area that has winter conditions and salted sanded winter roads.

pitted and chipped and rusting after one Canadian Winter , total POS!
and dealer refused warranty, even though I washed and cared for them weekly!

Polish, wax or chrome treatment made no difference

...only cure was Plasti-Dip

I'm going to keep these as a dedicated Winter set,for my 305/50R20 Grappler's
and get a set of cast/polished 2013 20" (NON Chrome Clads Polished Aluminum) and a set of 305/50R20 Nitto 420S tires for Summer.

I put Collinite 476s wax sealer on mine and I'll apply a few more coats before the snow flies here and hopefully mine don't get LIKE THAT!

I bought my 2013 SLT last week and a few days later noticed they were plastic. At first I was not pleased, but after thinking it over decided it was a plus due to the winters in the NE. I could take off the covers and run the painted rims through the winter, then put the chrome skins back on in the summer. I originally was considering the Ram Sport, but was concerned about the polished wheels and the effects of winter on them. This seems to be a good compromise without having to buy a second tire and wheel package for winter.

They are not like hub caps and I believe it's difficult to even remove them without damaging them. They are somewhat permanently epoxied to the aluminum underneath. There are threads on this forum about guys that removed them to powder coat and I believe that's what I read about it.

Yes everyone is doing it nows days. Hey on the bright side if one loses luster you can replace it wayyyy cheaper than replacing a chrome wkheel.

I have to wonder what the hell happened to wheels that worked. I have had old Camaros, 300ZXs, Supras, GTIs etc etc. I can't think of any car I have had that did not have alloys. Many of these cars were well used and had many miles as I owned them when I was much younger. I have never had issues with wheels fogging, pitting, corroding like they do now. When they got unbearably dirty you sprayed a corrosive cleaner on them and they were like new again. A BIG bone of contention with the GMC Duramax I just dumped with 70,000 kms was the POS aluminium (alloy $h!t-mix) that in the first year the clearcoat peeled off the wheels in sheets and they went to $h!t horribly. I was NOT impressed for a $70k truck. The factory refinished them under warranty and it lasted a total of 2 months before the garden hose literally sprayed off the clear-coat again. Factory said sorry - 1 warranty repair per customer. Truck was a year old and looked like it was at least 10. A hole rusted through the roof by year 4. Factory said sorry not covered because it is environmental damage as I live near the coast. So much for the 7 year perforation warranty. Stuff is made cheap as $h!t today but you guys are right - plastic hubcaps (it's what they are whether they are glued or clipped on) on a 50K truck is a pretty lame - although the alloys so cheap now I suspect the plastic will look presentable longer. I didn't know and now I am re-considering my hunt for a Laramie since the appearance is what really attracted me to it.

Same here....that water from the hose hit them and I was like WTF!? Felt a little bamboozled but replaced them almost right away so I don't care!

I didn't know when I signed the paperwork, but I found out quickly after haha! But I didn't care because the dealer had detailed the crap out of the truck and I was getting looks for days after that. Of course the looks increased once I upped the sound level of my first 8 cylinder truck...Hemi, no less I'm looking into new wheels now anyway as a wedding gift to myself so those will be my extra or winter set. I still like em, plastic or not.
