I did not know till i wiped down the rims by hand. At first i was pissed but after thinking about it i thought if something should happen to them they would be cheep to fix. I get alot of complements on the rims and the truck. I was however told by the dealer that the rims where solid and not just a hubcap because it was a Laramie package. I call BS on that but ohh well it was what i wanted.

I didn't have to pay any extra for mine so it wasnt a big deal to me. They look good and i dont have to worry about them pitting out or having to polish them. I got lucky really, a guy put a deposit down on my truck and had the stealership put on some chrome rims for him, and he never got it. So they didnt charge me extra for them. I got one heck of a deal on my truck so i was happy with it.

I knew the "chrome-clad" wheels were plastic but I didn't pay extra for them. They don't seem to be structurally weaker. They look great, and I get a lot of compliments on them. They are easy to clean. If/when I don't like them anymore, I'll get some different ones.
I do think it's pretty sorry they charge extra for plastic, no matter how they look. It certainly didn't cost them $100 a rim...or even half that...to make them.

I knew mine were the standard chrome clad over steel eight lugs before I bought my Ram. At almost 5 years old, they still look as good as new. Just regular coats of wax and they sparkle quite well. The plastic center caps, on the other hand, still polish up ok but have amassed tiny specs and pits along with a small crack or two upon inspection. No matter. I'll be stocking a few NOS spares for when they become too nasty.

I didn't find out for myself until I was washing one of my rims. At first I was like WTF!, then was content. I get compliments all the time on my stockers, even have people offered to buy them.........

Funny, I had no Clue, I had them switch out the Polished aluminum because I wanted the chrome and I did not pay any extra. I always thought they felt funny, when my truck was a week old some young chick was pulling into a spot next to me (and yes I parked at the back of the flippen lot) and I heard the sound as I was walking away "SCRAPE" I could have cried, all it did was scuff the plastic and at almost 9 years old that is the only blemish on them, so if they were chrome I can only assume they would be rusty like my chrome nerf bars are starting to get...

The description "chrome clad aluminum wheel" would lead one to think that they chromed an aluminum wheel . Thats what I thought . My truck came with the basic aluminum wheels , but I was thinking about getting the "crome clad" as they look great . But now that I know they are plastic I'll invest in real wheels .
However manufactures have been using this trick for awhile . The "chrome wheels on my 2001 f150 were I discovered a plastic hub cap the first time I washed it .

The minimal amount of elbow grease required to clean these things make them worth it IMHO.

Step 1. Wash
Step 2. Dry
Step 3. Admire the shine!
