Default Modified factory Y-pipe

I had a thread going the other day about the factory Y-pipe and if anyone had tried to modify it. Well, today I dropped my exhaust off the manifolds and modified mine. I used a plasma torch, oxy acetylene torch, and a mig welder. First I cut out the restriction with the plasma and the gas torch. Then i heated up the pipe to widen out some off the restriction before the y. I used the torch to heat up the pipe to bring the two pipes together and then welded the pipe back together.
After I reinstalled the exhaust I noticed the difference right away. The throttle was more responsive and the tone of the exhaust even changed a little bit. I am not one to waste gas or rubber, but my truck would not break the tires loose from a stop before and now it will.
I had no idea that the factory exhaust was really that restrictive, WOW.

Cost of modification - $0

I have some pics but the site won't let me post them. I guess the files are too large.

Here are the pics. Figured out a way to compress the files.

Default Factory Warranty

Happy that you are seeing such a difference. You need to be careful going forward as if the dealer discovers this it could potentially void your warranty. I had this conversation with the Mufflex folks today and they do not recommend that new vehicles change this out. Just giving you a heads up.

Thanks for your concern. What was mufflex's reasoning for not doing the y-pipe mod? There are countless members on this site that have done a y-pipe mod. Most all have noticed an improvement in the performance of their truck. As for the warranty, it would be a void of the exhaust warranty. And if you do it the way I did, it still looks factory.

The only thing they could deny warranty work on would be the exhaust components. They wouldn't be able to deny a warranty claim if your radio stopped working or your motor blew up.
