Default Torque Converter replaced? Satisfied?

For those of you that already had your Torque Converter replaced I was wondering how satisfied you were.

Did it fix the problem? Noise completely gone or just better?

Did they put in a remanufactured TC or a new one?

Did they throw in anything else? Extend time on warranty? Free lunch? Anything?

For those of us looking at the fix it would be helpful to know how satisfied you were with the repair, thanks. I am not looking forward to them tearing apart my transmission on a new truck, but I guess what choice do I have.

Default No Noise!

They installed a new converter last week and re-flashed the trans. The noise is gone. Odo is showing about 8,000 miles.

I'm very satisfied, mine was replaced with a new TC. The noise is gone and the truck's overall drivability improved. I was the same way, didn't want my trans getting dropped with only 2600 miles but like you said, what other choice is there? If you're hearing noise, I'd definitely have them swap it out.

Mine was changed out at 400 and change miles. I'm pretty sure the new one improved the performance and MPGs, but really hard to tell with that few miles on the truck. Don't know if it was a new or reman TC. No more noise.

I will say that the TC on my truck must be performing as it should. I just towed my 6000# travel trailer from Kansas to Texas, and averaged around 12 MPGs for the trip. And if I drive carefully unloaded she can get 20+ MPGs. If the TC was not locking up correctly, I don't think that level of fuel economy would be possible.

Dealer gave me no freebies for the pain and suffering, but they made the process easy. They ordered the TC, I brought my truck in on a Wednesday morning and it was done by early afternoon same day. That was enough to make me happy.

Good thread - I'd like to add a question as well.

Is there any firm cutoff in the build dates to indicate which trucks for sure are impacted by this potential TC issue? I have a copy of the star report but it lists repair kits for 2009-2011, so was wondering if there's a way to tell if mine is part of it. I can duplicate the grinding/growling noise pretty reliably.

Got my TC replaced. Noise went away and shifting was ALOT smoother. Dealer gave me no hassle, which I was suprised. They replaced it with a Re-manufactured one which if you'd ask me, I'd rather have a re-man then a brand new one.

I just dropped mine off today. Im at work for 2 weeks so plenty of time for them to do it. The tech I took on the test drive knew exactly the noise that it was, and mentioned it is something to do with a software issue that is causing the trans to not send enough line pressure to completely lock up or unlock the TC. I hope they replace it regardless, its not a nice noise.

Replaced with a new unit at just under 900 miles. Slight noise at first but getting worse.

Got in one day, fired it up and, Hmmm, stuck in 4th. Even started out in 4th. Took it in and the tech reflashed the trans, Said I had 2 "pending codes" and was in limp mode(3rd). Dont know if that had anything to do with the TC or not. Looks like another TC is in my future.

FWIW the service mgr said I got the last new TC, now all they get is remanufactured units.

A guy I work with was getting 18 mpg, got a new TC then got 14 mpg. Now oon a 3rd TC and getting 17 mpg. I never get 17 unless pampering it down the highway.
