Default fuel door and tailgate rust help

i have the brushed aluminum fuel door that is starting to corrode. with winter comin up i want to try to do something. any suggestions. i would like to keep it looking stock otherwise i would have just sanded it and painted it red. the tailgate is the only other place i am getting rust and it is all along the bottom so i wanted to know if there was something other than removing and full paint. any help would be great.

Try mothers aluminum polish. As for tail gate the best way to take care of it is to have it refinished.

oh yeah. great 50 buck investment. i had it installed in 15 minutes. i love never having to lower my tailgate. sounds trivial but it is really convenient.

As for the tailgate, you need to deal with the rust. I spray the inside of the rockers, tailgate and doors of my trucks with Penetrol. It's a oil paint additive that is oil based. You can get in the paint section of the big box stores. It flows well, creeps into the rust and dries hard. Seems to prevent rust from progressing any further. Friend that has done a lot of auto restoration recommended it to me some years back. I just put it in a cheap pump up sprayer, stick that in the drain holes and let it fly. Be sure and park the truck out on the yard until the penetrol is done draining out of the holes or put something down to catch the drips.
