I need to replace the bushings on my control arms (98 Ram 1500 2WD) and I've been looking at the various service kits. Anyone got any feelings on this one? Any recommendations besides "take it to a shop"?
Some folks complained about not having the right adapters to be able to use it on their vehicle. I'm thinking what they needed were the right sized press ends. A socket can substitute for those if the tool spreads enough to fit over the piece and still allow room for the addition of a socket between the press end and the bushing.
No specific info on application or dimensions on this kit so it's a bit of a crapshoot as to whether or not it will work on your truck.
I have sockets out the ya-ya so I probably could make do. I've changed bushings on older model Fords with that famous squeaking upper control arm bushing - just burned out the old bushing and stuffed the new one in. Might not be as easy on the truck though seeing as the bushing is much bigger and tougher.
I went ahead and ordered the kit - had some bonus points on my Amazon card so I applied them. Got it for $55 and change.
