Default Gooseneck Hitch in a 1500

I have a 16' Goosneck Trailer rated for 7,000 pounds. I use it to tow my Cherokee. The Cherokee weighs max 4,000 pounds. So my question would be if I add a goosneck hitch in the bed of my Ram will I notice a lot of sag in the back. I can't imagine that there is all that much tounge weight, but if I look at adding this hitch should I also budget in airbags for the rear? I am also looking at adding the factory MOPAR brake controller since both of my axles have electronically controlled brakes.

Here's a picture of the trailer on my old 2001 Ram 2500 CTD

Default Thought

Coil Springs on 2011 vs Leaf on older, and 2500 vs 1500?

Just a guess

I think you would be ok. But I would invest in a set of timberlins. I was just at my suspension guy and he was telling me he just did air bags on a guys 1500 and they were a waist. Now not all air bags are the same so figure this into you quest.

Thumbs up Total Load Control Air Suspension Solves the Sag - and More

Hi Brendan,

If you have any sag issues with the gooseneck, please check out TotalLoadControl.com on the vendor page or our website.

Our patented new air suspension has 9" air springs that level any load (of course, never exceed GVWR or GCWR). Also improves steering, handling and braking - loaded or unloaded. Simply put, TLC outperforms every other air suspension.

We've been on the Z for a couple months and have happy Z users you can read about. Right now we have a $100 off RAMZ coupon and 30 day money back guarantee - so hope you give TLC a try.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

John

I would suggest being prepared to add additional load control. You will likely need it. I have a 31 ft travel trailer that weighs in between 7 and 8K LB depending upon how much junk it's carrying. It does load down the back of my 2011 1500. Not overly loaded though. No issues towing due to trailer hitch weight

As for the brake controller, Any quality aftermarket controller will work just as well as a "factory" controller. Value of the factory controller would be the fit in the factory location. I have an aftermarket. It's located by my right knee just above the gas pedal. Very common brake controller location

Ditto on the Timbren's. It took me about 10 minutes to install these. Pull the factory ones out and raise the truck, put a 2x4 between the Timbren's and your axle and let the truck down until they seat. EASIEST mod yet. (prob the least $$$ too) Towed a ~26' bumper pull camper the next day with no issues. I also installed the factory brake controller--looks great and no holes to drill.

Seen a ford ranger with a goose neck 30' camper a while back. Should say it was along side the road dead
