Default Molded Mud Flaps

Well, I decided that I wanted to put some mud flaps on my Ram since it has already started to snow up here in the Denver area. I wanted something that would go with my Red and Black theme that I am slowly working on. Unfortunately, I couldn't really find anything that fit with my truck. I found a set that I liked the design of but they were just black with a Ram design. As this forum has taught me, "If you cannot find it, make it yourself." So I decided to mod the flaps myself.

Here is the original flaps.

I taped them off around the Ram emblem and used a Red enamel for model cars and a superfine microbrush to paint in the emblems.

Here they are after the paint had dried and I removed the tape. Not perfect, but they look great from a few feet away.

Here they are installed on my truck.

I think they look great with my Black Ballistic OffRoad Jester wheel with the red inserts.
I plan on plasti-dipping my side bars black, but will probably have to wait until spring. It is getting too cold here.

What do you all think?
Worthy of rep points?

Definitely a nice touch.

But for rep points, you have to take a pic of the paint bottle showing enough detail that anyone can find the same stuff at their hobby store, along with a pic of the brush, and you painting with it. A final pic that features the whole truck is also essential.

Or you can just write off the above paragraph to my warped sense of humor....which is likely the better of the 2 options. LOL

Great job! Keep the mods coming.

Hate to tell you this but the molded flaps suck in CO, I had them on my last truck and the road dust gets between it and the paint and sands your paint off, down to bare metal! Trust me get them off! I can see in the picts where it is hitting your paint and its making me wince!

Using some kind of tape between the mud flap & the body will fix the rubbing issue

Racerdamon - Thanks for the heads up. Actually, I did some research before I bought these and this came up. People who have used these suggested putting a layer of silicone on them so they won't rub off the paint. I put a pretty good layer of silicone on the mud flaps, so I hope that prevents it happening. I also wash my truck about every other day during the winter, so hopefully that will help as well. I will check them periodically and see if there is any paint damage and deal with it accordingly. Thanks again for the head up though. It is nice to see Forum members looking out for each other. Give me hope that this country can make it through the tough times we are facing. I also gave you rep points for the advice.

Looks great but I'll have to agree with Racerdamon on this one. Had them on my white Ram for one winter (4 months - I always remove my flaps for the summer) and they marked the paint and left a "nice" little outline of where they were...not so nice! Hope the silicone does the trick for ya.

Ordered the heavy duty flat ones hoping they'll be better. Unfortunately up here in the north, flaps are a necessity in the winter...unless you like the slop all down the sides of your truck

I used truck cap foam under mine on the paint and it seems to be working out good.

Nice looking touch!

I put the clear tape down before I put mine on. You can always put the tape on before too long if you change your mind.
