Default Weight distributing hitch questions

I picked up a weight distributing hitch assembly. Before I install and adjust it for my trailer, simple question. is it overkill for a 6 x 11 foot 3,000lb cargo trailer? The trailer is 6 feet tall. I'm thinking I can eliminate the truck sag with the trailer loaded and maybe be safer in high cross winds. I plan on a few Nevada to Texas trips so I'll know I'll get the wind plus big rigs passing me. Theses hitches are about $400 and I got one for $65 plus another $75 for new trailer snap up brackets. Anyone out there with alot of experience?

Not overkill. I tow a 3500lb camper, and the difference is well worth
the investment. The WDH improves the ride so much, that alone is worth it.
It's also so stable with the WDH I can drive with one finger (though I don't
recommend it!).

Just make sure it's installed and adjusted correctly. You don't want to
put too much tension on the WDH itself, so it distributes too much weight
fore or aft. I've heard of at least one trailer getting it's frame bent that
way.

At that weight you don't need it but I wouldn't say that it's overkill

I agree, its overkill, but it sounds like you got a great price for it, so it adds some saftey to your tow rig.

Doesn`t take much of a load in front of your trailer axles to exceed your tongue weight. If you`re sagging? Use them. Tongue weight with no help is like 500lbs.
