Default Help!!! Bed Cover will not stay up by itself.

One day it was fine the next it does not stay up by itself...it's like the shocks on each side stopped working. Any ideas? This is a nightmare as I use the bed a lot and it kind of defeats the purpose. Not sure what the things are called that allow it to go up and stay in place with a soft lift either???

They are called struts and they do get weak in colder weather although they should stay up.

You can get replacements from the mfgr or take one down to the local auto parts store and see if they can match it.

A temporary fix is to raise the lid and clamp a small set of vise grips to one of the strut shafts, right below the barrel.

Thanks MADDOG. I've been struggling to figure out who makes this bedcover.I purchased the truck used and didn't think to confirm that when I purchased it. There is a stick under the cover somewhere but not sure if the mfgr name will be there.

You're welcome. More than likely you can just take one off and go to the local auto parts store to match one up.

Your struts may be riveted to the aluminum structure but that's OK. You can drill those out and use a bolt, nut and washer to fasten the new ones.

Gonna give that a shot. My assumption is that the current ones are shot and cannot be fixed so this cannot hurt. I'll report back...
Thanks again!!!!

So I found some truck websites that sells gas props for fiberglass bed covers like mine. If I measure mine extended and collapsed and then match them on website should I be safe?

Check the barrel diameter as well.
