Default BakFlip HD - Need Opinions

So after months of reading reviews and researching different hard tonneau covers, I decided to go with a BakFlip HD. The tonneau is exactly what I was looking for in both fit and function. I love the low profile look and how easy it is to access the bed if I need to throw something in there which requires some room.

I installed the cover Sept 1 of this year and have had it "rolled" up a max of 10 times (most of which I've completely removed it so I could see out of my rear window during long trips). I noticed about a month ago that I was starting to get a wear mark on one of the panels. I contacted Bak and shot them the pics I've attached here. I got a response from them and was told that the issue was caused by a mistake on their end. According to the dude at Bak, the metal hinge area wasn't de-burred (ends smoothed out) and the rough edge was causing the paint to wear out.

He said it was an easy fix - grab a hand sander and hit the edge to smooth it out, then to spray a q-tip and dab it the panel to cover up the worn out area. He said he'd spot me some $ for my troubles. I also received an email from their VP that said she'd swap my cover for a brand new one if I wasn't comfortable with the fix solution.

Question for you guys - I dropped about 800 bucks on this cover and it's less than 4 mths old, but I have to fix this. Which option would you take?! Have any experienced anything similar?!

Too bad about the scrach. It sounds like Bak is trying to make things right, by offering you a couple different solitions. Good for them. Some company's it is almost impossible to get any customer service after a sale... It's totaly up to you on which choice to take. Good luck. I have had the Bak flip F-1 for about 7 months now with no problems.

Yeah, they're no doubt taking care of me! I just somewhat feel like a d-bag asking them to ship out a whole new cover for something that I could easily fix. But on the other hand I shouldn't have to fix a cover that was this expensive.

If it were me, I would take the $$$$ and do the fix. You will be farther ahead than replacing the cover.
That's just my opinion, take it or leave it as it is your truck.

I just got a Bak HD myself with the toolbox and so far I haven't been too impressed. The Cover itself barely fits, the two bolts are corroding, and the toolbox doesn't fit at all! I would have em ship out a new cover. I need to contact those guys too.

Oh it fits, but it just seems like the rubber seals on the edges (especially at the tailgate) should overlap a little more. Besides, I was already pissed off about the missing shims, the bent rail, and the Bak Box being too small. All that before I adjusted the cover. And now the hold down bolts are corroding on top! *sigh* Maybe I should take another look at it.
