Default 5.2 with no "gitty up"

I dont know if its just me or not, i dont have another truck to compare it too but my 98 ram with the 5.2 has no "gitty up"

it has a hemifever custom tune, aem brute force intake, new plugs (autolites) wires are good, 4.56 gears and a stall converter, shift kit

for all these mods i would expect more, but i got 285/70r17 tires and it just dont seem to have the kick it use too

now i use to run 285/75r16 tires, but then i went to bigger tires, but i also swapped out 3.55 for 4.56 gears

i have a ton of torque, but 0-60 is....well there is more to be desired.

I got all the mods done, i wonder if i got something plugged...and yes i use seafoam via tank and vacuum line

hmmm....the 5.2 has never been known for great performance until they get built, stroked and some better breathing heads put on. You only have so much to work with here if the basic engine is still stock.

yea the motor itself is bone stock. I have the programmer and cold air intake, thats all for the motor part, I always use the best stuff (plugs, wires etc.) on my truck

Its prolly been asked millions of time, but is there a way to build up a 318 to be decent. Every time i ask this, im always told to swap for a 360. Why do that when my 318 runs fine. I know i can get more power from a 360, but a 318 shouldnt be far behind.

What can i do to improve performance. Its my toy, driven only about 500 miles a year, so mpg is not a problem.

what can 1k buy, or 1,500 buy?

or should i just try a high flow cat. The cat i have is prolly clogged with junk

a high flow cat might help but with the gearing its not going to be a speed demond at all it should take off like a bat out of hell but loose on top and mid line. and being that its a stock block and head set up that wont help ether. you might need bully dog programer tb mod (better throttle responce and free) compucam. those are a thought

On a '96 I would check the cat before buying a bunch of mods... those old style cats are known for plugging.
If it happens to be the cat, I would have your exhaust folks mod the y pipe with a magnaflow y to remove any restrictions then run a high flo converter.
I've read on other formus that the results are impressive!

I agree. Otherwise it just seems like you're putting lipstick on a pig and calling her your date. I changed to a high flow cat and being a bone stock 5 spd I have to ballast the rear in the rain.

Take that thousand bucks, get the Hughes RPM AirGap mpi intake and get a better cam. At least do the intake manifold. If you don't want to go into the engine, add 1.7 rocker arms with better valve springs. A high flow cat is useful and will compliment top side improvements.
