Lightbulb 4th Gen rear bumper on 3rd Gen truck

Hi All,

I've been lurking this site for a couple weeks now and getting a lot of great info.

I know I can't be the only person who has thought of this but I can't find anything about it... I love the look of the 4th gen rear bumpers with the exhaust cut-outs in them and was wondering if anyone has tried to put the new style bumper on their 3rd gen truck or if it is even possible?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Mike I'm new here also and I've also been thinking about how hard it would be to convert my 2004 to a 2010 or 2011 bumper....... Let me know if you find any useful info

I don't think the body lines will match up. But, here's some thing you can try...take yer truck down to the dealer and park next to a new truck and check it out!

Man, they almost look the same. Throwing out the mechanical issues that may arise (fabricating mounts is no big deal) I'm just wondering about the dimensions and the form of the bumper horns as they wrap around the body.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

MADDOG - that is actually what sparked my interest in this venture. I was at my local dealer shortly after buying my truck and I parked next to a new one like the picture above (thank you dfskinner) and thought that would be to cool and very unique to have the newer bumper on my truck.

Was really hoping someone has already done this but looks like i'm going to have a new spring project. Stay tuned all.

Thanks,
Mike

Did one last year , Yes it can be done . However , you will have to trim off the sides of the bumper where it wraps the lower bed or do what we did and cut the bed and recess the bed about 1.2cm and fabricate new mounting brackets. I think two hole line up and you have to redrill the lower ( cant remember. The 09 bumper is also an inch lower .
If you just want the pipe cutouts it is much easier to just cut your gen 3 bumper and weld in tube inserts for the notch .

I will be start a gen3 to gen 4 swap here some , grafting the new gen 4 sport front clip ( hood , grill , fenders , sport or 2500 front bumper ) in a gen 3 body and reworking the bed to follow the body lines I have not seen it done so I thought I would build something different. If anyone has seen one PM me a link , Also while under the knife I am going to have to wide body the rear to tuck 24x14's

Maybe you should think about modifying your current bumper & getting it re-chromed
triple plating is show quality, stock bumpers may get 2 coats

there should be chrome shops near where you live

something like this
http://www.goodmarkindustries.com/rechrome.cfm

there are places near Buffalo NY, US CHROME
Niagara Custom Plating 2538 Seneca Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY
http://www.trippplating.com/
