Default Air intake system

Just thinking of changing the air intake system and or air filter to the "K&N" type. It seems like a good amount of money for some plastic and a rubber hose and I am not sure it supposed gain is worth the expense. Any one have this set up on their Ram and to what results?
Thanks

They are pretty good for the price. If you don't want to spend a lot of money, look at a replacement filter from K&N or another company. The stock airbox isn't terrible on these trucks! There are a few people working on tube replacements also to save money on a complete intake swap There are a ton of people satisfied with just a filter swap in the stock box.

BUT...I did spend 350 bucks on my new Vararam intake last week

From a performance point of view, youre not gonna get a big gain. You might get between 5-10hp if youre lucky and depending on the engine. Honestly i think the reason people buy these, is beacuse they are very simple to install and easy to obtain.

Very little gain for the cost. You won't even be able to feel the difference, but you will definately hear it. It makes the intake sound very loud. If you feel your engine needs more air, get a drop in, but a stock engine is getting all the air it can use with the factory unit.

The '09-'12 airbox is actually quite good and is already a cold air intake. The OEM size filter in this box is pretty darned big. Drop in a high flow filter like a K&N and open up the airbox a bit more, and you've got a decent improvement for something under $70. Then do a muffler swap to a freer flowing muffler, and again, a fair amount of bang-for-the-buck.
