Question 180 Stat

Guys,
I read some of the previous threads regarding changing the thermostat to 180, and have some questions that I was hoping to get help with. Without a programmer, will changing the stat from 203 to 180 cause problems? Specifically, will the computer continue to attempt to obtain the 203 temp by running the engine rich which could thereby have a negative effect on fuel effeciency? I realize that I bought a 4x4 truck and not a smartcar, I just do not want to create more problems.

Also, I live in Florida and do not have a concern re: Snow. We have two seasons here - Summer and more Summer.

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Usually the 180 tstat's are not a low enough temperature to cause issues with the engine running in open loop too long. This is what would cause it to run rich, or think that it's not warm enough. Especially in FL, you shouldn't have an issue with this. I've run 180 tstat's with several vehicles and never had an issue with this, and I'm in Orlando. Usually you have to get into 160 tstat's to run into these issues...

No problem, I would monitor a few tanks mpg before and after the change to be sure, but you shouldn't have any ill effects.

Have you noticed it has been COLD the last few days (this comment is simply to anger people who reside up north, as it's been 50's at night and 70's during the day ....way colder than it's been the past month hehe)

We actually had frost this morning. So to get the full Northern experience, I put it in 4X4 and drove around my back yard just to see what it would feel like driving in snow.

^haha that's funny!

It was pretty cold last night and this morning....I walked over to the thermostat and thought about putting the heat on, but then decided to just put a long sleeved shirt on instead...
