Default 545rfe transmission

after reading about the "new"6 speed trany thats available in the 2012 rams, It looks like it is a 545rfe that is reprogrammed. Does anyone know if the 545 in the 09,10 and 11 can be "reflashed"to make them a new "6 speed"?

It's not looking good.
The 45RFE, 545RFE & 645RFE are all the same mechanics, but there appears to be a difference in the valve body that prohibits 'flashing' them to have the capabilities of the modernized version.

BRAD is correct, although it may only be the spring rate that was changed in the valve body
the torque converter was also changed, better clutch in it

in 2013 the new 8 speed ZF designed transmission will be in the Rams

am I the only person who doesn't have a problem with the current tranny?

Near as I can tell it performs as advertised....

what's the deal besides it being the latest and greatest etc?

Nope. I have no beefs with the trans. Sure anything can be improved but it pulled a 24 ft enclosed trailer loaded full of my house contents halfway across Canada without issue. Didn't like the big hills but either did my old diesel 5 years ago going the other way. I'd say they are leaps and bounds better than the early attempts at OD transmissions

The 545rfe is the same great tranny that has been in the ram since 2003, while it is a solid transmission, there have been advancements in technology in the 8 years since its debut. The new 8 speed is supposed to have more clutches and quicker/smoother shifts, plus you won't have problems with it trying to find a gear like our current transmissions do on hills and under medium loads.

No problem with my tranny , just it's about how long I keep a vehicle the longest actually, by now 2 plus years I am ready to get something new and not the same vehicle usually.

I'm happy with mine. No problems with it, other than having the torque converter replaced for "The Noise". It shifts fine, and when towing my travel trailer, keeping it in tow-haul mode and dropping it into 4th gear works great. Tranny stays nice and cool, too.

I've been driving this one like a Grandpa, usually accelerating through the shifts reasonably. And I've never punched it from a dead stop yet (5000 plus miles). I think just about any transmission will hurt if you push it too hard too often. And I want this one to last a long, long time. I didn't buy a racer. I bought transportation. But that's just me.
