Default Question about the Mopar Ipod cable # 82212160

I have a 2012 Express that came with the RES 130 radio and Uconnect from the factory but it doesn't have the USB port in the upper glove box like the SLT and BigHorn models have because it's an open bin.

My objective is to play mp3 files from a USB memory stick. So if I install the Mopar Ipod Cable #82212160 which has a USB connector at the end of it, allow me to play MP3 files from a USB memory stick like the factory equipped models that came with the USB in the upper glove box ?

If those other models have the same head unit then I would say yes but if not then you're stuck with using the aux/headphone input from a phone/mp3 player. You'll hav to use the device for control but any modern android phone can run 32gb sdcards.

Mine has it in the glove to (works 50% of the time) but as far as what your asking do u have an ipod u can always hook it up to the head unit and play it.But as far as the port is there one on the head unit itself if so you should be able to use a usb stick on that.

My dads big horn has the RES with sat radio but doesn't have the cord
From what I understand is that the USB cord goes to the uconnect module and not to the headunit

My 130 RES radio doesn't have the USB in it just the Uconnect without the USB port in the glove box.
The Mopar harness plugs into the Uconnect boxes UCI port and provides a USB connection on the end
of the harness to plug the Ipod cable into or MP3 player I think.

I was wondering if anyone has used this harness before and would it work playing memory stick MP3s too?
It seems like it should be able to handle playing the MP3 files on USB memory sticks too.

check down underneath and around where it should be, I was told by a member that it is possible that it was dealer installed or something. There may be a connector tucked somewhere under there. Just passing along what i was told a long time ago, if i can find the pm i'll post what it said

Yes, that is the cable that you will need in order to play audio from a thumb drive or an IPod.. This cable as shown in the picture will plug into the Uconnect module which should be mounted behind or below the glove box opening. Yes MP3 files will play fine thru a memory stick (thumb drive) and this cable.

On the RES radio, there is not a port on the front of the radio, only a headphone jack for aux input. You mention that yours only works 50% of the time. What happens when it doesn't work? Have you had the Chrysler TSB 08-036-11A performed on your vehicle? If not, then you will want to get it done.

moparornocar72, You are right!!!

My dealer has the Mopar Ipod cable so today I went to buy it. The parts guy shows me it and one end is a micro USB male connector and I told him my Uconnect doesn't have that type of port open it has a 8 pin female connector. So he then shows me actual Uconnect box he had in stock and guess what there really is USB Micro femail port that the Ipod cable plugs into.

It turns what out I thought was the open UCI port with 8 pins is not correct. My Uconnect box already has a cable plugged into it. I thought is was a coax antenna cable but really it's the USB Ipod cable. I just need to find out where the cable terminates in the dash....go figure.

So anyone who has a 2012 Express model with the factory Uconnect you may already be set to hookup to USB memory sticks/ MP3 players and Ipods. I'll let you know where this cable goes to. This is cool, it saves me another $37.50 for a cable.
