Question Retractable tailgate step for dual exhaust?

Hi to all.
I would like to buy a retractable tailgate step but for dual exhaust (Ram 1500 Quad Cab).
Access to be granted even with open tailgate.
Any advice for type / reference and web site where to buy?
Thanks in advance, Denis.

Here is another possible solution. I am still trying to decide between this and the Debo step. Both have redeeming qualities.

That Trekstep looks OK too

But for me, i think that the tailgate cables would get in my way, i'd trip on them for sure

I really like my DEBO STEP

The AMP and Bestop steps won't work if you have dual exhaust. I'm pretty sure it states that in their instructions. The left pipe will be in the way or it would be a melted mess within no time from the heat of the tail pipe.

I have the AMP step, works great, folds up and out of the way nicely. I've forgotten to put it up a few times. That could be harmful if you forget and back into something.

I wondered about that. Could not tell from their website. You would think they would put more information about which models/exhausts it will work with. Thanks for letting us know. Helps with my decision.

Razorbass,
Thanks for the initial info on the Bestop. I sort of like the design of the Bestop a little better and called them today for clarification on their bed step. I confirmed that the current model will not work for our dual exhaust trucks. However, they are releasing a new model in Feb 2012 (I think they said it will be called "trekstep") for our 4th Gen's that have dual exhaust. The tech claimed it was a similiar design but will extend more towards the side. He also claimed there is no issue with heat from the exhaust pipe. Hope the info helps.

I just installed the debo step. I like it and it works well and is unobtrusive. I recommend it

Thanks Silver Ram, I also called Bestop and they said the same thing about the dual exhaust. Let's hope they get their new ones out soon.

While talking with Bestop, they did say they have a new retractable side step that will be coming out early next year. We actually got to install a set of rear and side retractable steps for a show truck recently and they work really well. Now I want a set to help me load my dirtbikes!
If interested in ordering, click on Bestop.

Hitchmate also makes a retractable step that retracts out of a 2" hitch and costs $76.45. The great thing about these is that you can take them on and off and use them on other vehicles (might not work if you have an undercarriage spare tire). If interested in ordering, click Hitchmate.

Features:
  • Works when your tailgate is down
  • The versatile HitchMate TruckStep slides back a full 23.5 to clear your open tailgate
  • Supports up to 500 lbs
  • Your trailer hitch step mounts to any 2 receiver
  • The HitchMate TruckStep is made to last from zinc-plated steel
  • Slip-free rubber pad built into the step
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty
