What do you think of that Cobra all-in-1? It looks like it might make for a tidy install and could mostly disappear when it isn't needed.

With the depth of the hood I haven't seen any hood channel mounts that would work
This would though, you would have to lift the cap to install it

Best place for the antenna is still the center of the roof. Any place on the side of a vehicle is going to tend to reflect the signal in that direction and limit how well you transmit and receive.

That is why i use the magnetically mounted antenna, when i have to use any of the hand held radios
I have both the LIL WIL & the BIG WiL mag mounted antennas, http://www.wilsonantenna.com/
they are made by WILSON, they send & receive the signal in a better pattern than the
fiberglas wrapped pattern from say a FIRE Stick, http://www.firestik.com/

I had my regular radio installed by a guy that does Cbs, Alarms, & stereo systems for classic cars.
I had to keep working & i still had my other truck that was setup to work, i made a box for that radio

see the velcro mounted Hands Free Device between the shift lever & the cd player ? nice & compact, the rest of it mounts behind the radio & is made to work with the trucks speaker system, for making cell phone calls, the microphone is much better than the Ram vehicles mic & it is clipped to the overhead console, hardly visable. http://www.parrot.com/usa/products/b...-free-car-kits

i had a 2004 dodge 1 ton and i had the CB by the power pedal switch. close to my left knee. i am very tall and it never seemed to bump me. it was also easy to change stations, volume, etc. and there were no wires hanging so it looked okay to. that is my suggestion to you on what worked for me

highlandchef, some people don't care for the Cobra all-in-one cb radio
I often work with the California Highway Patrol & i use it as a loaner, as they don't usually have cb radios in the patrol vehicles any more.

Few radio techs know that you can boost the modulation of this radio very easily, i believe that they only put out 3 Watts, even though the package reads 4W.
This radios internal speaker sucks, best to use an External speaker, like i mounted on my suitcases lid
http://cobra.com/Manuals/75WXST.pdf

this tells a lot more about the radio, it is a video

by the way, if this one goes haywire, i will Not buy another
