Default 96 problems but a shift aint one.

Well.... I hope you found the title of this thread as clever as I did.

Now, With that out of the way, let me get serious for a minute, as stated in my intro thread, my new-to-me ram has an issue or two, First off, it's a 96 5.9 with 120,xxx KM on it The truck runs great when cold, after about an hour it start a stutter that progressivley gets worse until the truck just stalls, won't start again until it's cooled right off (the next day) The CEL light is not on, I plugged in my reader anyways and it confirms that no one has a clue what's going on here. Previous owner stated he believed it was the fuel pump, however I'd imagine a fuel pump would either work or not, and not be picky on tempature, this in mind my tempature never reaches above normal temp, the gauge gets to the middle and that's as high as it get, I was informed that most likley the cap and rotor is heating up, expanding, spreading out the contact points thus making the striker weak on impact, But would this not set off a misfire code? There's a slight grind coming from the rear end but I'm almost sure it's just the worn down rear drums, not worried. Also theres a couple of gentlemen asleep in the bed of my truck, they might be dead, How can I tell?

When the truck is cold, drag one of the gentlemen out of the bed and put his lips on the exhaust. If you squeeze his nostrils shut and his eyes pop out, then you have pretty good exhaust flow.

After it warms up, roll the other gentlemen out, drag him over, and put his lips around the exhaust. Then squeeze HIS nostrils shut. If his eyes don't pop out then your catalytic converter is probably clogged up or bad. Once it gets hot it expands and blocks the flow.

I feel bad for you son...

(BTW if they run away when you roll 'em out of the bed of the truck, they were probably just sleeping)

Could also be a faulty Inlet Air temp sensor.

Wellll, I rolled over Dwayne and Rufus, and as you suspeced, Rufus did not get the same level of high that Dwayne did, which tells me that as you suspected the Cat is plugged, (Previous owner did tell me that it was an in city only truck) or that Dwayne isn't quite the badass he makes himself out to be. Now I decided to get them out I'd throw some fire crackers into the bed of my truck while they were sleeping, they both became wide awake, and jumped out quickley! unfornatually it lit my truck on fire and burnt it down to the frame.... Not sure who really won there....
