JMHO, but if you mean the return of the draft, I doubt it. No clear objective and would probably be political suicide for the party in power. People now expect other countries to handle more of the heavy lifting and there are other ways to deliver payload. Bob

I don't see it coming at all.

It will take a major conflict and the past two campaigns didn't have a draft.

Further, we have a much larger, better equipped and trained National Guard force than we did when the last draft was instituted.

think there should be a draft, but agree, it would be political suicide.

Just my 2 worthless cents

The Draft doesn't accomplish any goals, It doesn't make a better Military,
it only got some Officers using the Latrines a ride on a satchel charge & other troops on reconnaissance missions lost several Lead Scouts due to 'friendly fire'

That doesn't happen anywhere near as much with an all volunteer Military

I haven't heard anything about it, but there are enough people in the service that need to leave already, we don't need to make it worse. I have no desire to deal with the cultural, drug, and other issues of the 1970s. I would much rather have quality over quantity-a single individual can degrade a whole platoon by his poor example, behavior, and/or attitude.

Very, very unlikely. It was brought up a while back during the later days of the war on terror. We already have a large all volunteer force that, as previously stated, some people need to get out of.

Gen. McCrystal was speaking on the draft in the past month.

Conscription means you will service some sort of state service being military or civil service for a set amount of time. The youth today seems like they need it. As for the reserves, nothing against them but there a different between 1 weekend a month and doing it everyday.

Strap hangers, there will always be strap hangers. Leadership can identity problem children if they don't have their hands tied on how to handle it in regards to time it takes to discharge them.

Some rumblings from the likes of Schlumberger and Halliburton that another war is needed to get the price of oil back up. There have been close to 200,000 oil services related people laid off, worldwide (>60,000 in Houston), over the past 12 months or so.
