Default Chrome removal help needed.

I want to remove the side chrome strips on my doors but not sure if their will be holes in the doors where the strips go or if it's all just adhesive not sure at all where to begin. Also I want to remove the chrome from the front bumper. Thinking about sanding it all down and painting it myself. But I'm worried I'll do a bad job and it'll chip up since it's on the front of my vehicle. What do you guys think?

Here's what I'm talking about. (I just installed a black grille btw)

If you want to pull it off paint it and put it back on who cares if there is holes??

Painting the chrome is more of a chore than painting normal stuff. You need to use adhesion promotor and how you sand and how thick/even your coats are is more important that usual.

I cant tell you about taking them off, but if your painting just take your take and SAND SAND SAND SAND the chrome! lol

Well for the doors I didn't plan to put them back on. Just not sure if there is going to be holes in the doors after I take them off.

For the front I know sanding is gonna be a bitch. But hopefully wont be that bad since it's just plastic. Just not sure on what paint to get. (Primer, clear coat, paint, etc)

To paint chrome I went adhesion promotor primer color clear. two or three layers of adhesion promotor, about 6 coats of primer, 6-8 coats of color and a few good coats of clear.

This was to paint my stock "chrome" grill

You did all that after sanding all the chrome off? Or just right over it? What type of paint did you use?

Unless they changed something in 05 and 06 the are no holes behind the moldings on the side. And as far as the chrome your better of just buying the unpainted parts and trying to sell the chrome parts cause like ss said it’s a lot of work and not garneted to hold but either way paint prep is where you make your money

So the door moldings are just held on by adhesive?

x2 to what billmopar said. Shouldn't be holes. Painting chrome sucks, you can probably sell the chrome and buy paintable or painted one for the same price. Save a ton of effort and time.

Awesome. Guess only one way to find out lol.

And I was looking at the bumper more closely it looks as if the center chrome piece on the bumper is an add on type of deal. I might just be able to pull it off. I'll have to try it out once the weather gets better.
