Default 13+ Stock Projector Housing: Ballast "Tetris" Experiences?

Has anyone had experience using ballasts other than the Morimoto XB35 or XB55?

Specifically, were you able to stuff them into the stock headlight and get the dustcap on? I want to avoid drilling a hole and using a grommet but will if I have to.

Here are the ballasts currently under consideration:

Denso Slim D2S: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/com...-ballasts.html

Matsushita Gen V D2S: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/com...-ballasts.html

Mitsubishi Gen IV D2S: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/com...ast-48688.html (strongly preferred as they are Honda/Acura's choice and do not require potting)

Given the relatively large sizes of the Denso and Mitsubishi compared to the Morimoto, I'd guess there's no way to make them fit. The Matsushita is a lot closer but still significantly thicker/bigger.

Your thoughts?

The three you referenced didn't appear to be "CANBus" and because of this you will likely have flickering in your HID lamps.

I bought a CANBus HID system ($65) from an eBay retailer with a good rep. The ballast and the capacitor were in separate cases and both fit in side the headlamp bucket.

Did you notice a problem with things getting hot? The resistors that retroshop sells say they need to be mounted to metal to dissipate the heat. I would prefer not to have to put holes in my headlight housings if I can.
